Convertible top rear latch not working
I am having problems with my top again. I have already had the lift cylinders rebuilt and now the rear center latch won't work without a little shove on the top. Opening the top, everything works fine. Closing the top, everything works fine until the last step. The top just won't pull down and latch on it's own. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks!!!
I can't say that, in eleven years on this forum, I have heard of this (at least, not very often).
The question is, is it the bow latch that is at fault or is it that the bow cylinders are not pushing the bow down far enough for the latch to catch it and grab it?
The top control module will not activate the bow latch until sensors (which I believe would be the rear bow cylinder's sensors) tell the TCM to engage the rear bow latch. This means that either the rear bow is, again, not traveling down far enough to tell the TCM to activate the latch OR the travel sensor on the rear bow cylider is not telling the TCM to activate the latch.
I'd have to read thru the service manual to see the exact sequence that is expected. I've owned three Roadsters over eleven years, and have never had top issues, other than the window falling out; therefore I've never got very far into the sequence. (I know the secrets of keeping the top working - but when I tell people my secrets, they usually disregard them. Like when I tell them how to keep the A/C working for 190,000 miles...

I have had similar issues but if I reverse the top movement a couple of inches and retry it will latch. I've topped off the hyd reservoir and looked at the linkage and cables and while it is not a consistent problem it is annoying. I've no idea what causes it. Some of the mechanics on here may know.
Hey PizzaGuy,
Tell me how to keep my top working. Please
My top work great up to putting top up rear latch won't latch. I push it down a little and then close " D " handle and push down button then rear bow latches.
Thanking you in advance,
Don
