Default Centre armrest won’t open

Replaced the cup holder today with the new bin ordered on line in the 05 roadster. Now the centre armrest won’t open. There is nothing in there to block the latch. Anyone run into the armrest not opening and staying latch. Need it to open before we head to the Dragon.
any suggestions ?

I believe your car has the vacuum lock since it is a convertible the yellow vacuum pipe may have come off or has a hole in it.

Shoot. I broke the fitting (white plastic) that connects the hose to the white part in the armrest. Where the heck do you buy another one of those things ?
Thanks for telling me and many others what it does.

I broke the white plastic part that attaches the hose to the part in the armrest. Where the heck do you buy a part like that ?

No idea where you can get that 'part' but maybe you can use a good plastic weld glue making sure the hole doesn't get plugged? IF you use a solvent/glue, be sure to let it fully cure before reassembly, you do not want that solvent/glue vapors inside the air lines. There also might be used ones on various websites that float the forum, do a search on crossfire parts. Good luck.

As you well know getting parts for this car is becoming more and more difficult, Only Idea I have is glue it back to broken part or bypass it all together but never put anything of value in your console any longer, lock it up in the glove box. Another ideal, is do like the rest of us go to ebay or market place on this site and ask anyone if they have this part available for sale. I wish you all the best

The plan is to disconnect the air actuator. Anyone have instructions how to unlock the center console and leave it unlocked. Where is the unlock switch on the console ?

unlocking the door with the remote and using the key in the door handle did not work the center console is still locked. Do I need to take the bright yellow hose off the actuator first ?

You have a vacuum leak to the lock.

Since it only takes a puff of air or a quick suck to open or close the locks, why not remove the console and get to the back of the lock. The pump operates just for a second or so and you can hear it in the trunk quite easily. It does not run all the time.
I have repaired plastic parts with a suitable cement and then wrapped it in epoxy putty, the kind you cut of a slice and mix them together. This gives the joint a solid support.

There is no air actuator in the console or armrest. It is in the trunk. You stated you broke a part, so I assume you know how to remove the center console, if not, use the search feature at the top of the page. After you remove the console, you will see the plastic tube that carries the vacuum to operate the lock. unhook it and suck on it to unlock the latch. Tape it off so you do not leak vacuum to the rest of the system and as long as it is unhooked, it will no longer lock or unlock. I assume you never viewed the instructions on replacing the cupholder ?

I broke mine installing the one touch top switch a number of years ago and found one at a Mercedes dealership. If you go down this route, tell them you need the plastic elbow for the center counsel vacuum hose for a 2004 SLK 320. I may have the actual MB part number in my XF file folder, if so, I will modify this post.

How do you get the locked armrest console opened to change the part ? I can hear the pump when using the fob to unlock. My issue now is to get at the part with the centre console locked

The connection is under the center console. You will need to remove the center console to get to the connection. There should be a forum thread on how to remove the center console, as stated earlier. Here is the MB part number 202-805-02-44-64, you may be able to find on-line as well. Good luck!

I think I understand the dilemma. You need to remove the console in order in initiate a long term fix but you cannot remove the console because the lid is locked and you need the lid open in order to remove the 10mm bolts that fasten it to the floor

the white part next to the cup holder is the key to this. If it’s broken, you only have few options
1) force the top. The latch is plastic and it will break. Downside is you’ll need to surf eBay or the marketplace for replacement parts.
2) (I’ve been able to do this as I to have the bin that replaced the cup holder). The bin can be removed from the top by inserting thin shims. I use old credit card style keys from hotels cut into narrow strips. If you work one side of the bin gently prying from outside to in, (I usually do this on the edge that faces the passenger) it will dislodge. Once it’s out, you just might be able to access the cam that that is activated by air pressure to unlock the bin.

I’ve had mine out a few time so I’ll see if I can locate better images. I just grabbed this one from eBay.

I forgot the screws were not accessible. The bin can be removed by hand, I just use a thumb on the drivers side of tha bin in the centre of the side and my fingers on the other side. Then squeeze the two sides together.
