Default Antifreeze odor from AC/heater

Anyone else out there that gets the sweet smell of antifreeze from the heater/AC system? I have had this happen several times over the winter right after starting the car. Anyone have a clue?

I had the same problem since I bought the car last October. I finally had it serviced last week and the problem is pretty much gone. Then again, I think I still smell it, but not nearly as much.

What was done to correct it is still a bit of a mystery to me. They hadn't completed the work order when I came to pick the car up and being they were quite busy, they told me to go ahead and leave and they'd mail the paperwork. As long as they weren't asking for money, I left. I haven't received the paperwork yet.

I'm not sure, but either the radiator or the heater core was replaced. I'll let you know when I find out.

Ya, that does sound about right, leaks so that the smell of anti-freeze gets into the venting system. Luckily, ours doesn't have that. Should be a warranty fix if it's a leak from poor welds or broken plastic housings vs. a rock bounce puncture.

Yep, sounds like a leak in the heater core or AC evaporator, both of which are under the dash directly behind the radio.

definitely a heater core problem... if anyone gets word from their dealer on why it is happening please let us know... especially if they let you see the failed component...
