Default New SRT6 vert owner with problems :(

Purchased SRT6 convertible from out of state dealer (Ford) with 15K miles on it...was driving it home and noticed a power problem...car works fine for about 15 minutes when cold...once the car is warmed up, sometimes it has no power and just revs and every once in a while the power is fine...1st day of ownership I took it to Chrysler dealership and they replaced a temp sensor...driving it home and it started doing the same thing...took it back and they just replaced the supercharger (took a week) and they test drove it and it did the same thing after 15 minutes...

Now they say they need to contact Chrysler corporate to see what to do...car is still under the factory warranty...

Any thoughts? Thus far, I'm very disappointed in the whole experience...I guess buying off the internet is a risk EVEN when a car is under warranty.

Absolutely! I also recommend the intercooler pump and sensor to be replaced...I had the same problem you did. Once this was replaced, all was good!!!

yea its not an uncommon error... and any mercedes tech that has worked on c32s and slk32s would know that they come with a faulty intercooler pump... no idea why they replaced the supercharger as it has nothing to do with it... tell them about it or read a little from the mercedes forum... after you get this small thing fix you will love vehicle as I do not know of anyone that has bought this car and did not like it…

Thanks for the input...I'll let them know and see what they say...hopefully they installed the new, unnecessary supercharger correctly...the car has been at the dealership for over 2 weeks now...

I'll let you know how it works out.

look at it this way, you got a new supercharger for their incompetence... another part that commonly fails is the s/c clutch bearing. so now you don't have to worry about it for at least another 30K miles.

My dealer determined that a bad supercharger clutch was the problem with my car. Unfortunately the dealer seriously underestimated the time and complexity of installing the replacement supercharger. So instead of getting my car back last week I may get my car back this Tues - if there are no further problems.

I'm curious to know how long it takes them to order the part and have it installed. Mine took several weeks to get replaced.

My supercharger installation took around two weeks total. It took a week for the replacement supercharger and some other parts to ship and about another week for the installation. The engine runs fine now.

As a side note, without the supercharger engaging the car was a slug because it just wouldn't downshift. Autostick to the rescue!. After I started manually downshifting the car exhibited spritely performance.

Before you let ANY dealership work on your SRT6 (or Crossfire), ask them if they have any Crossfire certified techs at the service center. If not, run, do not walk, to a new dealership. Otherwise they will guess their way to a solution as they apparently tried several times, and failed. Check this board often as there is some REALLY good info that would have saved you time and the dealership time and money. Lots of known problems and fixes are here. (Make sure the E19 fan control module recall was done on that VIN while they are hacking away at the 2ndary IC water pump).

If you have the extended warranty where they give you a rental while they hack your SRT6 up into small pieces, take advantage of the free rental. If not, suggest getting a gratis rental if they can't diagnose the problems correctly and get it back to you in a timely fashion (which shows they don't have the needed expertise on site).

Default Re: New SRT6 vert owner with problems...UPDATE

Finally received the car back with NEW supercharger and NEW IC water pump...seems the water pump was the problem...took the car out for about 45 minutes and it ran fine...good thing I went on this forum or they still would be guessing at the problem...amazing that Chrysler did not know the IC water pumps often fail...I feel like calling Chrysler and letting them know...car was at dealership for one month to fix a water pump and I'm the one that told them to check that part based on the feedback I received here...

Now, another question, if you purchase K&N air filters...where do you buy them and are they easy to install?

Also, my chrome exhaust outlets seem very discolored...any products you would recommend to clean them?

Thanks.
