Default Dealership extended warranty

I have a “new” '05 SRT-6 that I bought a couple of weeks ago and I am considering the purchase of the seven year extended warranty. The 3 year 36,000 mile factory warrants started when I bought the car and I wanted to get the 7 year bumper to bumper warranty except the dealership told me that the 7 year warranty would only cover the car until 2012. They said that the warranty would be in effect from 2005-2012 because the car was a 2005 model. I thought the 7 years should start when I purchased the car because it had never been titled yet. So now I need to determine if it is worth getting an additional two years of coverage after the original one runs out in three years (I won’t be putting on enough mileage to hit the 36k before three years). Has anyone dealt with this issue or am I the first one.

If the car has never been titled the warranty should start the day you took delivery. I bought the extended warranty for 8 years and it started the day I took delivery in July 2006. Mine had been titled, but only had a bit over 3K miles, but was Chrysler certified. I'm not sure what he's trying to pull, unless he just doesn't know any better. Ask to speak with someone who is the warranty expert at the dealer.

I finally got to someone who knew the right answers. The finance manager explained that the extended warranty does indeed start at the time of purchase. I got the 7 year bumper to bumper and it takes me thru 2014.
