Default Where are the manual SRT6's??

I finally decided to sell my '04 & buy a SRT6, but all I'm finding are automatics...

What's going on?

I think they stopped making manuals before the 2005 model year.

The SRT-6 only came from the factory with a automatic transmission.

Chrysler never offered the SRT-6 with a manual and I don't believe MB ever offered the SLK32 with a manual.

There is a 6spd from a crossfire on ebay for $299.00

Is anyone brave enough? or rich enough (my problem, lol, not enough money to mess with it!)

only one guy in the States with a 6 speed SRT6, and HDDP hasn't even got it running yet.

That's really odd that it would only come as an automatic... I wouldn't want to alter it, though.

Thanks for the info, guys!

Hopefully, if I can find a buyer for the 04, I'll be posting a picture of my new srt6 soon.

No AMG car has ever been manual since the AMG and Benz merge... not even the DTM cars...

Some sources have stated that AMG buyers prefer an auto so that's what AMG provided. Other sources have stated that MB did not have a manual transmission that could handle the HP and torque of the supercharged 3.2. Regardless, most owners find that the auto works so well that they don't miss having a manual.

I think AMG has designed the automatics to shift faster than any manual tranny, and for those that desire the manual shift, just offset the shifter in the gate and select your gear or downshift manually from behind the steering wheel, similar to an F1 car but without the sequential shifting.

Personally after owning the 6spd car I would rather have the auto with tiptronic gear selelct. I don't really see a need for the manual trans, except to gain another 5% more hp.

The benefit of which is also negated because we have a locking torque converter in all forward gears.

I do prefer to row my own gears, but AMG definitely makes a good automatic.

This is prolly a stupid question, but what exactly is a locking torque converter?

The internal components of the torque converter make a solid (non-fluid) connection between the flywheel and the transmission. Basically the same as a manual transmission's clutch engaging in the same manner.

Would the gear syncros from a standard Crossfire even handle the extra 115HP if you slapped it in the SRT 6?

I'm sure it would need a performance clutch at least a 2200lbs clutch would do, but what about all the actual gearing?

Opinion:
And, I don't care how well a company makes the transmission, unless I'm driving an F1 Race car I'd MUCH rather have a manual ..

After driving my SRT6 for almost two years I don't miss a manual. The automatic inspired by AMG is without doubt one of the slickest transmissions I have ever used. It can be switched to the "manumatic" mode and you can shift manually (without a clutch of course).

I think one of the reasons AMG only offers automatics is so you can hold on to the steering wheel with both hands when you really step on it. LOL

Ah yes, but be patient... I'm layed off work now because of the writers strike, so I have lots of time to work on it... Not sure if that's a good thing, or a bad thing

Best of luck with the strike, HDDP. Be sure to keep us updated on it, but also keep us updated on your vehicle!
