More like 4 times as much as your car with current prices! Those M5s are nearly 90 grand. I'd rather buy an SRT6 and a Z06 for the price of one M5.

0-100: SRT6 - 12.4, M5 - 9.5
0-120: SRT6 - 19.0, M5 - 13.3

SRT6 info from http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtest...t-6-page4.html
M5/M6 info from http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...data_panel.pdf

Apparently the M5 with the full manual gearbox is noticeably slower than the SMG variant, showing 0-60 and 1/4 mile on par with the SRT6.
Well, not to start a war, but I'm referencing verified times that have been recorded by members of this site. 4.7-4.8 0-60 and 12.9-13.0 1/4. I realize that those are best case numbers, but they are possible. I still don't think it's unreasonable to believe that a modded SRT would be able to beat a V10 M5.

Yep. And that solves the "limited passenger" problem, too. Just put the other two people in the second car!

As much as I would enjoy whooping on an M5 that car still has another 4 cylinders pushing it down the road as well as hundreds of pounds more TQ. I think up to 100-110 it could be a drivers race with a pulley'd SRT but after that those ugly BMW brake lights will be showing me there face...

I remember sitting in an M6 @ the Philly auto show in '05 and it had a V-12 in it. I remember needing, not wanting, but needing 130K for this car. What's up with this V-10 stuff?

The focus in this discussion is solely on 0-60 times. That is all nice and dandy. But far more important is handling and that is an area where the BMW beats the Crossfire hands down. The steering feel and feed back is far better. The old MB designed circulating ball steering box is really outdated!
The Crossfire looks unique! And I like it!

I almost lost two good friends because of the "2 seat" deal!! Kind of ridiculous, but they thought I bought the car so I wouldn't have to drive!! Uh....yeah OK!! Geez....

HaHaHaHa

Yeah, it was the Honda Civic Ricer that was serving up the Soft Serve.

You mis-counted. The M6 in current form has only had the 5.0 Liter V10. The last M6 that was sold in the US was back in the 80's and it had a inline 6. The only BMW currently in production with a V12 is the 760Li.

I 110% agree with you on the Steering. However, I realize that the BMW puts down some serious numbers on the raod course, but on a very tight back road, I think the weight and size of the M5 would catch up to it. In that situation, I would have to personally believe the M5/M6 and SRT-6 would be pretty close on say "The Tail of Dragon"

I heard a rumor that an M5 DSG was capable of 11's in stock trim with Drag Radials on it. Can anyone verify this?

While on the topic of German Uber Sedans, there is one that hasn't been brought up here yet. The current E63 AMG. That thing is a BEAST! It's got 1.3 liters more displacement and A LOT more torgue than the M5. I've seen one of these run an 11.30 with Drag Radials and few minor upgrades. I WOULD NOT CHALLENGE ONE OF THOSE! I can only imagine what the C63 will be be capable of, eventhough it's slightly de-tuned down to around 460 HP vs. 507 for E63. That thing will be a 4 Door Viper Killer...

NE - I would just caution trying to compare sedans to 2 seaters. There really is no comparison. A 'Vette to a Viper is always a good discussion. BMW's are still considered by many experts to be the best handling sedans in the world. When you look at 2 seaters, the GT2 and GT3's usually come out on top. I've attached a good comparison with the aforementioned C63 from Motor Trend. Enjoy!

That is all true. I was just attempting to construct a Hypothetical real world situation. I don't disagree with these experts either. BMW has the lock on Sport Sedan Overall performance. The matchup that is unlikely to happen, but I would really like to see is the BMW Z4 MCoupe vs. SRT-6. That would really show where we stand compared to the BMW Performance Brand...

Not picking a fight here at all. I would agree with you in the fact of it being almost 2 years ago, but I could have sworn there were 2 sets of 6 runners but I remember seeing "V12" next to "BMW" on it. Now this could have been some prototype or whatever, no expert on BMWs here, just stating what I saw.

I'll have to do some research on that. I follow that stuff pretty close and I can't recall seeing a V12 prototype 6 Series. What show did you see it at?

Philly auto show in February '05. I could see confusing or misremembering 2 sets of 5 intake runners for six, but that plastic cover saying V12 next to BMW is unmistakeable. Maybe it's why the 136K pricetag?

I remember snapping photos while there, I'll see if I can dig them up.
