License/Registration Fee Rant
I bought my SRT6 "used" in March of this year. I just got registration renewal notice from Arizona MVD and it is almost $500 for one year
. Now I do have a personalized "SRT SIX" plate but that is only $25. I am relatively new to Arizona and when I research the fee structure it is based on the car's oiriginal MSRP of $47K+. Now I paid less that half of that and I know many of you have purchased SRT6s at similiar prices in the last six months or so. I think the fee should be paid based on the sale price of the vehicle and not MSRP. What are you guys paying and what is the fee based on in other states?
Here in Illinoisthe renewal/registration fee is $78 for regular plates or $105 for personalized plates any car
License/Registration Fee has nothing to do with the value of the vehicle

In Kansas, there is a $45 fee for the registration, then you pay property tax on the depreciated value of the car. Vehicles in Kansas depreciate 15% every January 1. The SRT-6 is based on an average price of $39000. (Kansas arrived at this by allegedly getting data from the vehicle's manufacturer.) Thus the first year you register your vehicle (if you bought it new in 2005) will be whatever the mill levy is in your county x $39000. This will be prorated on the number of months remaining in 2005. Then in 2006, it will be 15% less than that. And in 2007, 15% less than that total from 2006. Of course this all too confusing. All I know that it costs me for 2008 is $432 in taxes + $45 registration fee = $477 which is close to what you are paying.

mine's $50 or so a year. Ohio doesn't base it on vehicle value. the state charges $34.50, then the county and city/towship/village/whatever have their fee also.

I was actually looking into buying an SRT in North Carolina so I can use my brothers address in Fort Bragg and benefit from considerably low sales tax and title fees. I end up not doing it due to the hassle of getting the car's registration renewed once he got "in country".
looking at Mr. F's response, looks like i need to get an address in Ohio

This thread amazes me yearly tax for car ownership? as a Canadian that travels in the US on a weekly basis, I always admired the "in your face" attitude US citizens had toward the government what has happened to your basic freedoms? In Canada the yearly registration will cost me, for the 05 Ltd, $65.00, and insurance around $1200.00, I will register the car in my company and pay on a different scale than personal insurance
Terry in BC, car registered in Alberta.

Other side of the pond it's a LOT more expensive and tied to CO2 output (yeah; whatever)
Don't mock, after the Bali 'sort of' agreement; it may be coming your way!!
For the SRT 6 I pay the equivalent of $800 per year for national road tax and there is talk of this rising to $1000.
There are no local taxes unless you live in car hating central London where you will pay $20 per day to use your car between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm and you will also pay for the privilege of parking outside your own door.
Add to that the $8 a gallon and the fact our new vehicles are about 30% more expensive than in the US. (Why: why do dogs lick their b*ll*cks? because they can!) No wonder car manufacturers call the UK "Treasure Island"

In TX you pay 6.25% sales tax when you buy the car. HOWEVER, if you trade a car in, you only pay tax on the difference. So, I got $17500 for my trade on a $24,500 car. I paid 6.25% of 7000. $437.50
That is ONLY when you buy it...one time fee.
Then, annually, I pay around $50-60 for registration.
I pay around $2400/year on insurance, but I have 4 vehicles, a boat, and homeowners on the same policy and I am under 25yrs old. I will get a big break when I turn 25 because all of the sudden I will be more responsible, less off a liability, and safe on the road ...lol.

I think I paid close to $500 for a 1 year registration in MI.
No personal property tax in MI, but registration seems to more than make up for it (compared to WV).
The DMV/Sec. of State worker here in MI explained to me that the registration is based on the MSRP, age, mileage, etc. If it is over 10 or so years old, it is factored by vehicle weight.
Needless to say, I get hosed because of the MSRP on the SRT6 and the low mileage.
In WV, a 1 year registration was $30.00 for any car. Then you paid personal property tax on your vehicles, which was based on their current value.

We can iliminate the IRS in 6 Mos. - Google "Ron Paul"
Mine was like $750.00 here in NH. They charge $25.00 for every $1000.00 of retail value (that's every year!!). Not sure where they get the retail value though. I didn't pay it because I'm out of state military.
