Default r170 SLK32 VS r171 SLK55

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170...slk55-amg.html

An interesting one page article in this month's Mercedes Enthusiast comparing these two cars...

'Brain' (SLK32 AMG) vs 'Brawn' (SLK55 AMG).

...and the winner is...

The SLK32 AMG!

Verdict: 'The later 5.5-litre SLK might seem the superior package, but the original supercharged 3.2-litre car brims with character and feels more sporty'.

I think saying the slk32 is better than the slk55 is taking it a little far, but I definatly don't see it is a huge improvement... like some other newer benz models are over the older ones...

Generally though I think both of those cars are pretty ugly and I usually like Mercedes Styling..

The biggest advantage both of them have over the crossfire in my eyes is the hard-top convertable..

The ONLY advantage they have is the Hard-Top Drop Top. And that is only if you are a convertible lover. The SLK32 has the styling pashion of a '95 Ford Taurus, and the SLK55 just looks like an SL55 with Downs Syndrone and an F1 front splitter...

I feel the same way about the styling, I am sure many would argue though.. and afterall this is a crossfire forum.. well those cars will get new of the moment designs, but the crossfire design will become classic..

with a hardtop convertible you don't even have to be a convertible lover to enjoy the feature after all you have all the advantages of the traditional convertible and none of the drawbacks..

I if the crossfire was avaliable with a hardtop convertible I would easily shell out twice the price I paid, but unfortunately such a design is just not possible, this made me heavily consider trading my car for an XLR-V at one point, but I just love the Crossfire too much..

Come on.. British Design.. AMG Engine.. at such a price... that combination just can't be beat.. but most people will overlook those things simply because of the chrysler badging.. if a car is to cost such a high price they need a badge proving to others how much they spent on their vehicles.. Well anyways i am off to enjoy my CHRYSLER!!!

Hello,

I think styling is very much a personal choice. In Germany or other European countrys most people like the styling of the SLK32 and also the SLK55. In my opinion the old SLK R170 is kind of a pathfinder of a completely new class of cars (small 2-Seat Roadster with a Hardtop drop down). In my opinion the Chrysler Crossfire has also a beautiful design, although you don't see many of them on german streets. Enjoy your Crossfire SRT6 with its marvelous engine. And keep in mind, that it was handbuilt with the maxim 'one man one engine' from Mercedes-AMG...

Kind Regards from Germany
Bruno

to me nothing looks better than a canvas drop top - up or down- I doubt if the exotics will make that switchover
and I find it hard to believe that some prefer the looks of the 32 over the 55...to each his own

I am such a person.
All I can think of when I see a new SLK is this:

I prefer the 32 to the 55 and the SRT6 above both.

I followed the link Maxwell provided back to a Motor Trend article comparing a 2005 MB SLK55 to a 2005 Porsche BoxsterS. Its interesting that the article did not question the use of an auto tranny in the SLK55.
