Default Is 35K on an '05 SRT-6 coupe too high when considering a purchase

Hello.....long time lurker, first time poster. I'm in the process of negotiating on an '05 SRT6 coupe in black with approx 35K miles on it. The private party seller is asking almost $19K for this car and bought it about a year ago. He has used it as his daily driver so the majority of the miles are 'highway' miles but it is the highest mileage one I have run across in my search (and also the least expensive b/c of that). My questions are....

1) Is there a mileage cap where the potential resale bottom drops out on these cars, or have these cars already pretty much stabilized in the high teens/low twenties price range?

2) Considering the current mileage, is there any expensive service requirements upcoming? I'm already aware of the near $100.00 oil changes.

3) Does that sound like a good deal on this particular car considering the two owers and mileage? The rear tires were recently replaced by high performance Yokahamas, but the fronts are still the Crapstones...so I would replace them upon purchasing.

4) Is there anything else I should look for or be particularly aware of with a car with this mileage on it?

As I finished typing all of this I'm struck by how I, and presumably many others, consider a three year old car with 35K miles on it to be high mileage...haha.

IMO, you should be able to find one with lower miles for around the same price.

I've been watching Ebay, autotrader, and this forum for the past few weeks and that seems to be the lowest priced one I can find. Well, I have found some lower mileage equivalent priced aero blue cars but I'm pretty much set on black. Where else should I be looking?

well things to consider.. did the driver pay full price, 48.000
do a car fax , has it been wrecked
what recalls have been done, or service done

35.000 mile not bad, i paid 23.9 for a new srt-6 got 11.000 miles now
last year oct 07 i think . dealer knocket off 28.000 because chrysler offered discounts / rebates to the dealers

if you like it , buy it

Considering the very low avaliability of the SRT-6s lately, sure...

My car is approaching the Mileage and runs just as well as It did it when I bought it, besides maybe this way the previous owner took care of some of the TSB issues...

You can prolly get one for cheaper or lower mileage after the summer, but is a couple dollars worth the wait? and no crossfire ownership for sevral months?

Good point Sidez. Cammy5, if the car is clean, has a good history, etc. and you like it, it may be the right one for you.

Sounds good for an SRT.
Mileage isn't too high. Keep in mind under that really cool body is a Benz.

Diamler cars go long, really long. I have two 126 body Benzes. One has 300M on it and still going strong. The other is over 130K, runs like new.

For the "best engineered cars in the world" you would think they could make a power window unit that would last or a decent cruise control. But their drive trains and strong frames are the best and that is what is under that SRT.

In an accident I wouldn't want to be in anything but a Benz. Check out Irwin's post (with pictures) after he hit a tree dodging Bambi. He walked away.

It seems that with a small increase in miles, there is a substantial (at least a couple thousand dollars) price drop. I dont necessarily mind 35K miles, but am curious if there are any major servies or expenses around that mileage range that I will have to look forward to.

I think its a good deal! I bought mine last year with 37k on it for $24900 out the door. Still wishing I would have waited a few months. I have 47k on the car and mechanically it is sound! The blower motor for the heater/air broke, but its been solid otherwise.....

A well documented and fairly trouble free history is worth a trade-off on a few miles. It rarely does a car any good sitting around unused for two years on an outside dealer lot. I brought an SRT-6 convertible from across country just because it was a one owner car purchased new in 2005, with reasonable mileage use since. There were a few closer and with less mileage. But I haven't had a mechanical issue with mine to date.

I purchased mine last year for 24,500 out the door with 10,000 miles on the clock. If was buying this car to be used as a daily driver, I would look for milage under 15k. The cars are solid; however, the potential is there for expensive failures. I had the dealership include the 8/80k certified pre-owned warranty into the purchase for that reason. I don't use my car as a daily driver. For me, it's a rare car (under 2600 made), and I want to keep the milage down as much as possible while still having some fun on nice days. I would be willing to spend a couple grand more on a car with half the miles and a warranty. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll be happy.

If there is anything I have learned from the 45 plus cars I have owned, it's don't plan on making money on even the best collectables.
With that said if a car is worth the money to you that and that alone will make it "worth it".
New or old things go wrong with automobiles buy an extended warrenty.
20,000 on mine and I LOVE IT

Nope, probably won't make money on the car as most modern cars aren't investments; however, I enjoy keeping my vehicles like new and the lower the miles, the higher the resale value when it comes time to move on. Oh, and do get a WARRANTY.

Thanks for all the advice..... I'll probably just keep looking for a few more weeks for a lower mileage one.

Haha, small world..... I actually called that dealer in Napierville the other day. He was a nice enough guy but wanted to give me less than Black Book wholesale on my paid for trade in ('04 Civic EX) and took off $400.00 from his while basically adding it back with a dealer 'doc fee'. That car looks really nice but it is almost 11 hours away as well. You never know though.........
