Default Fuel Pump.

first, i just want to thank everyone on here for being such a responsive and welcoming group, it's made the ownership experience a blast!
okay,
it sounds like the fuel pump is a common culprit on the boards, i want to replace mine BEFORE anything happens, WHICH one should i purchase? there are several choices(all SLK applications)
btw, i have a 2005 SRT with 28,000miles.....

anyone have a suggestion?

thanks.

j.

Where did you hear this? - I've only read a few issues (N/A and SRT6) with the fuel pump.

I've never heard of any fuel pump problems. You may be thinking of the IC pump.

I had fuel pump probs, look at my post a few down for the ebay seller etc. But its rare. You're definately thinking of the heat exchanger pump, aka the IC pump. Chrysler calls it the auxilary water pump I believe.

You definitely have to be reffering to the IC pump, because the fuel pump has never been a "common" problem with these cars. You can buy the IC pump at LET's website.

Our SRT had a hundred miles on it last August '07 when we got it, and the fuel pump was one of several problems that needed fixing. A chech valve (or similar part) within the pump was allowing pressure to drop and causing long cranking times and hard starts. I seem to recall a few posts back then with similar hard start problems. IMO, it was the result of long term storage, not a defect. Our car sat somewhere for 35 months before we bought it. No problems in 12 months/14,000 miles on the new pump.
