Default Phenolic Spacers, a different approach

First, I want to give credit to Splinter for bringing this to our attention.

The Phenolic spacers we have just released for the N/A are actually interchangable for the SC motor as well, just in a different area.

http://www.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=263302

Check the thread for an exploded diagram showing where they would go. It looks like where the SC connects to the cylinder head. This would result in much better reduction of heat transfer compared to the ones used between the top of the intake manifold.

So there you go, another product for the SRT guys.

1/8"

Any larger and you run into AIR pump interference.

Do you have any temperature data with these new spacers compared to the others from LET and Code-3? I tested the LET spacers before and then after install and it showed a 60 degree delta. This test was on a rather hot 85 degree summer afternoon running ~15-20 miles of highway/city.

Remember what he said. These can be used in ADDITION to the 3mm or 6mm phenolic spacers. They go under the intake tubes(opposite side from intake manifolds). Here is the pic from MB forum.

edit: gasket is number 865.

My only concern is a possible boost leak for us srt6 guys.

How well do they match the ports? Do they require additional paper or stock gaskets on top and bottom?

There was a guy selling these made from Aluminium I THINK HE WAS CONFUSED WHAT THEY WERE FOR. A company like tvt or LET or Code probably outsourced there spacers, he had the program in solidworks or CAD and thought he would cut them out on the ole CNC, and sell them to people to make custom intake manifolds.

The question is are they usless ?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

"Since they N/A and Srt6 share the same heads they should work but I can't guarantee they it." When I asked if they will work for the SRT6

Not even close to the same thing. Those are FLANGES, these are Phenolic Spacers.

WHy would you need SC flanges for the SRT6 motor? Are you looking to reinstall a different SC?

No not at all, there are some guys looking to try and do their own supercharger kit, with a motech computer, this might work for them, otherwise like I said they are useless. Most are thinking the procharger is the way to go anyway...

I think the guy is thinking they will work for the SRT6 as in build your own needswings style manifolds. I dont know if he doesnt realize they go under the superchager not on top.

Nice!

Will probably grab a set of these from you guys to compliment the LET ones I already have. Thinking of going w/ NGK IX plugs one step colder than stock also (still running stock plug/gap).

Can you PM me a parts vs. parts + labor quote for these two jobs? From there I can determine to DIY or not... thanks in advance!

IT is a do it yourself job a monkey could install spacers. The only crappy part is having to redo the 4 gaskets you put in for the LET spacers. I think they are roughly $30

A strong monkey.

These are to be installed under the supercharger, against the cylinder head (#865):

In my posting I showed how I glued the LET gaskets together to allow them to go in as a part so they would not separate. I would hope that since they have no goo on either side they should come out without damage.

It looks like these spacers if they work on the SRT will cause me to pull the tubes out and port the lower surfaces now too. I could tell the difference in a good way when I did that to the stock intake manifolds and the inlet side of the tubes.

And I was thinking I done it all for this year so that I could get back to R/C planes again before winter. POO.

Good info, let us know if and when and how much, possibly with the 4 upper intake gaskets as an option.

WOODY ENJOY

I presume, from his comment, jonnyangel04 has removed and reinstalled the S/C from the M112K already. The upper spacers (e.g. LET) are relatively easy - but still a bit of a PITA because of how they change the angle as you're trying to seat the intake plenums.

My concern with the lower ones is simply the relative complexity/effort in removal of the S/C, and in making sure everything's reinstalled correctly. How difficult was that, jonnyangel04? Thanks.

Arnt the tubes to the side of the S/C so it can stay in? Woody

By the way gasket 865 looks its just the four bolts holding them on.
Supercharger stays!
