Default A new cupholder replacement question for you lol

Okay, I got the *&@(#!! cup holder out using a combination of a ginsu knife and a screwdriver (no i am not kidding lmao). It was simple to get out, no scratches anywhere and no removal of console

Now my question is this, which direction does it go in? I tried both ways but it does not seem to want to go down all the way.

Did you try just measuring the front and back insertion depth?

What do you normally use to measure insertion depth?

If I try B it will not go all the way down in the back by about 1/4" even if I force it.

If I try A it goes down flush on the drivers side but the passenger side will not go down because the bin is made at a slight angle. Forcing it down does not work.

Any ideas? I thought it would just drop right in but it will not.

It obviously won't fit your car.
Send it to me!

I found an old thread where someone said you had to remove the walls that hold the cupholder. I will work on it tomorrow, it is getting dark out and it is about 38 degrees outside.

I stuck the cupholder back in without the springs in the meantime.

Note, if your car is under warranty, break the cup holder and have the dealer install the pocket for free.

Note, if your car is under warranty and the cup holder "happens" to break, have the dealer install the pocket for you for free.

There, I fixed it for ya. I knew that 's what you meant to say!

I did the same thing as you did. After my cupholder broke, I did not want to take the entire console out so I used a sharp pair of wire cutters and cut away the remaining parts. When I tried to insert the new box, it would not go in. I found out the "walls" of the cupholder also have to be removed. I would recommend that you use multiple layers of masking tape to protect the console, especially around the opening. Then start cutting away. It takes patience, you have to be careful, and it will take some time but it's better than removing the console. Eventually you will get it all out and the box will slide right in (and I think it goes in B).

Much as some like the cupholder, the box is MUCH more useful IMHO. Good luck!

The console is not that hard to take out guys. I just did mine to get it painted and it was pretty painless. Especially since your not taking out the part with all the switches on it. Good luck.

crap! I put the cup holder back in.

I just did this on Saturday. Took the console out and the whole thing took me about an hour start to finish. Option B is the right direction - mine slipped right in and clicked to lock in place.

Timely thread. My cupholder broke last week -- I suspect the dealer did it when they were test driving the car for the intercooler -- and it goes back in Monday for the bin vs the cupholder. I'll invest in some masking tape for the console area around the cupholder, but I expect them to remove the console so they can clock the hours under warranty.
