Rough install = Code 3 pulley squeaks when engaging when cold
Actually all the water pump failures were from LET not 178mm ASP. To be fair about it the crank pulleys never had one single problem, it was the water pump pulley that failed. ASP must have a different manufacturer or inhouse do thiers. Whoever did the first batch for LET went bad, so far no one with a replacement from LET has had a recurring problem. There is no bigger sizes available from ASP after 5 years of producing them. You have to wonder if it was safe for the cars why didn't they make the other sizes?
Mr.Photoman it does seem like there is more bad posts about them vs good posts. I still believe no upgraded heat exchanger, pump, etc. shouldn't be needed from just installing a pulley regardless which one. If so then it's potential for harming the motor is greater than the others and shouldn't be used.

Here is the update...
I noticed when I originally installed it that the tolerances were so tight that I had to "walk" the pulley onto the shaft, and up to the clutch. This means when I was finally done, the pulley would be angled incorrectly because it was walked up the shaft, instead of slid straight.
Today I uninstalled it and tried something new... First, I used WD40 on the shaft (I did not let it touch the pulley back plate). Then... I put the pull on the end of the shaft and spun the shaft. I could see the pulley wasn't spinning straight so I held it while spinning the shaft and the pulley all of a sudden slid on, no questions asked, completely straight. So when I spin the pulley now I can see its perfectly straight spinning. After my first install I could see a very slight wobble.
So bashers of Code 3 pulley..... The pulley install IS easy, its just the person that made the instructions could've thrown in a few more hints. The pulley itself is designed perfect it would seem.
Now, I still have the problem of the slightly uneven backing plate because of my rough panic episode when I couldn't move the pulley during the first install. But I dont think this will be a problem because once the clutch magnet pull the backing plate back then it will sit even on the clutch due to the magnetic pull. As long as the uneven areas don't rub the clutch during non-s/c times, then it should be ok.
Soooooo, everything is ok. Code3's pulley is pretty cool when done right.
That being said, don't bring up Code3 merging with LET in this thread. Thats a whole new can of worms for me. A company that is always there for me like C3 merging with a company I can't even get ahold of ever.... Its uhm a strange feeling.

I feel it is my place to warn everyone about the 178mm pulley. I had bought one a month ago and just last week I found out it was having an affair with my wife. I kicked that SOB and my wife out and told them to never come back.
SO unless YOU want to risk losing your wife to a pulley that sleeps around with the ladies then you better get the code3 pulley.

ohno, there was a problem with some of the pulleys...just call them and they will send you another one...I had one that wasn't right and they replaced it...Brandon will take care of it as long as you didn't damage it...
I believe I was one of the first to get mine installed and post results. Once I figured out that I needed three spacers and to use a strap wrench, it went flawlessly. I love the pully to death and am glad I went that route. On or off in 5 minutes. Never a problem and it helps the car spew a little more manjuice

What about standard clutch engaging squeaking. I have done numerous searches on this everyone says it normal then people think the supercharger is going bad then people say its just a wear spot on the clutch it will soon go away.
Could this be happening with the CODE3 pulley and the AMG clutch set up? I have the 178 Renntech pulley on mine NO PROBLEMS AT ALL

Johnny, the renntech is not a s/c pulley, so this wouldn't happen to you.
Heres my theory... The pulley backing plate has to flex its connectors, whatever they're called, when the clutch magnetizes and pulls the pulley's plate towards it. Simple.
If you have your pulley spaced too far away from the clutch, then the backing plate has to flex further to reach the magnetized clutch, and obviously the further it flexes then the more resistence it receives from its mounting point. Which means it touches the clutch with less force since the pulley is pulling it back. This loss of pressure can cause a squeek when the backing plate and clutch connect because there just isn't enough initial pressure so a slit second of squeeking friction occurs.
Therefore you remove a spacer which moves the pulley closer to the clutch and now the pulley backing plate travels a shorter distance to the clutch, receives less resistance from the pulley, and presses against the clutch harder, so no squeek on initial impact.
Of course I won't know this for sure until tomorrow morning when I start the car from cold....

YES it does happen to people with a stock supercharger clutch pulley as well there are numerous threads on this. That Is why I stated this could be what is possibly happening now to the code3 pulleys. My supercharger clutch makes I am willing to bet $100 the same high pitch squeak when it engages at about 2800 rpms when it is cold as your aftermarket C3 pulley. Sorry for the confusion on the last post with the no problems here, I wasn't referring to the noise I was referring to the earlier discussion of pulley quality.

But anyways the good news is... drumroll... Today, on our coldest morning yet, the s/c pulley and clutch never squeeked, not even the slightest chirp. So I'm relieved.
I think Rennetech was first to do the 178 set, because they were like the only MB tuners at the time. Then other companies copied the 178 pulley. I think it is pretty good that LET came up with something different, in fact if it wasn't for LET what would you guy's all fight about. When we do the ATCO track in NJ, I will be bringing my car with the 181 set up and SL-55 intake and we will see how well the combo performs. It is kind of like Goldilocks and the three bears, 178 tooo small 185 toooo big, 181 JUST RIGHT
I'm a FIRM believer in "Dr." Woody's findings also. I can feel the SC kick in at just around 13k or so.
