DIY Transmission leak fix with photos... TA DAAaa
This solved my problem. I thought it was an oil leak until I raised the car to notice it coming from the transmission. The leak was probably why it shifted a bit rough occasionally.
First, I called a dealer and they had the part for $9. I took it in the next week and showed them the photos to explain the leak. They had it fixed in an hour and cost me $77. Filled it up and no mess for me.
Not bad! No leak and smooth shifting! Thanks for all your help owners!

For the new O ring is there a part number just in case my dealer parts guy isn't as smart as your parts guy Also are there any other part numbers to be replaced.
Oddly enought, I pulled it off the invoice photo from the DIY.
It's 68021352AA. It's for the $9 cup seal and o rings.
A local Chrysler dealer (not known for handling much XFs) said the had plenty in stock. I assumed it was a part common to their whole line and not exclusive to XFs.

We have two dealers here. Called them both on the job just to see. One was $80 labor and knew about fix. The other one (biggest dealer quoted $230 and $18 for each Oring Think I'll do it.
great write-up and an easy fix. It took all of thirty minutes to jack up car, put on jack stands, remove bolts/bracket/connector, and put back together. A little time to clean up the mess the leak had made and presto chango, done. Thanks for all the hard work that made this easy. Twenty bucks and thirty minutes definitely makes for a better time than a trip to dealership, where they take a high powered vacuum to my wallet when given the chance.
Thanks for the great DIY! Mine wasn't 'leaking' perse, but since I was changing the tranny fluid/filer I picked one up anyways. The old one looked like it was going to start any day and there was some evidence in the harness... Very straight forward. Thanks again!

I just called my local C, D, +J dealership and they said that they have 2 in stock for $9.30 ea.
Gonna pick that up today, hopefully pick some 2"x8' up tomorrow to build a ramp, and some ATF fluid.
The owners manual says that I need to change the ATF fluid and filter at 80K miles, I have 84k.
Where is the filter located? or are these 2 things the filters?

Filter just pulls down from the valve body (more tranny fluid on ya) then push the new one in.
I might do a "How to" on this with pics. Stay tuned!

I went to Autozone today and walked out with 8 qts. of ATF and a Filter.
This is what the books/electronic gizmo recommended in autozone, they will work, right?:

I'm not a fan of Valvoline Max Life... it is a synthetic 'blend', hence the cheap price.
FWIW, I use Shell ATF 3353 (MB Spec 236.12) made specifically for the MB transmissions...

if you only jack up the passenger side of the car, the tranny fluid flows to the driver side the tranny. when the parts are replaced very little fluid is lost. worked for me. no need to worry about replacing any lost fluid.

That's what I did.
No fluid mess!
