Default Blown Supercharger and Highway MPG

Well nothing like blowing your supercharger while on a road trip that can result in great HW MPG. While traveling the mountains of NC and Tenn this weekend my supercharger stoped working. Thought at first it was a transmission thing. Car bucking while going uphill. Figured out it was the Super kicking in and than immediately stopping. Original IC pump so I am thinking it could be that.

Well limping home to Florida at 60 mph the whole way, 29.8 MPG. 420 miles on the tank before the light comes on. Too bad we don't have a on off switch for HW travel...

The dealer has it today, should be interesting to see how they deal with it. Thank god it is still under warranty.

By the way, 2200 miles in 2 days...

It makes sense to have the switch for economy. The Supercharger isn't providing you with anything at highway speeds except the ability to quickly go faster. It is actually a drag on the engine.

My NA gets 28 mpg on the highway Cathy's SRT gets a bit over 21 mpg.

Your 29.8 is remarkable. If gas goes to $4.50 a gallon again, might make sense to pull the belt off.

Probably the IC pump. I called it limp mode. The car would accelerate, but very slowly, even though the RPM would go up to 5000 the car just had no afterburners. It is very common in the SRT's.

The Supercharger cost $6000 plus labor.

Talking Re: Highway MPG

Woah, you mentioned that you wanted to be able to switch off the S/C for long trips????

Well I still have two magic wishes and I dont even need one to solve your request. All that is needed is to simply place a simple switch on the supercharger clutch line. THat would place it off line and reduce the drag that you speak of.

AWARNING WILL ROBINSON _ _ _ DANGER AHEAD !!

THis can be done easily, BUT YOU MUST NOT TURN THE SWITCH BACK ON ABOVE IDLE [1300 RPM.] IF you turn it on above idle you will over heat, score the clutch face and totally kill the clutch and magnet on THE FIRST TRY.

If this is something that you want to do place the switch under the hood so that you dont make a costly eror. The car will be anemic but work otherwise, IF you wanna do it.

PS the belt must not come off, you would lose alternator, a/c, power steering, COOLING and the S/C

Woody, you make my side hurt.

I should have been more specific about the belt thing. I knew someone would razz me about it. Glad it was you.

Probably better if you just unplug the connector at the clutch. Otherwise, well no drive belt, no accessories...

I got 27.6mpg coming home from Vegas.. Some down hill. Just went the speed limit. My wife was in the car. If she wasn't, I would have gotten about 18mpg.

See, that 3.07:1 gear ratio is good for something. You can always lower your spoiler to improve mileage....oops I forgot....that's a "NA" thing.

I regularly get 28-29 mpg on the roadster doing the speed limit (~70) but never better than 23 with the SRT6. I've actually recorded over 30 mpg with the roadster when I was doing a lot of 55-60 mph driving one afternoon.

Well three days later and I am still driving a Minivan. No pumps local, got it coming in from the north, wait, hopefully tomorrow. I asked my service guy if his manager would split the difference with me for a Johnson pump. Oh well, at least I have a nice minivan. LOL
