Default Leaking intake manifold gasket

Im at 35K miles. Noticed a big PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS is coming from the driver side intake manifold gasket area. Used some tubing to my ear to verify. These are stock manifolds, stock gaskets. Ordered the new gaskets from needswings.

So just some advice to everyone else... Make sure you don't have a boost leak!

The gaskets from NW work great. I lay them on some cardboard and spray adhesive to sit better when lining up.

If your cars at idle - then you would have a vacuum leak. You can spray a little carb cleaner in that area and listen for the engine idle to change.

to change gaskets? 20 min job tops. Basically same as swapping out the mani's. Don't really see how the factory could leak without a bolt being lose or something. The stock gaskets are like a thin metal product, so no tearing. They are an extremely thin gasket though.

I thought the factory ones were fine and reusable. Mine are off right now because I am doing the plenums, but my phenolics and factory gaskets have melded into one piece, which I thought would be fine for re-use.

My factory paper side gasket melded with the heads and tore when I tried to take them off. I had the new NW gaskets to go with the phenolics so it didnt matter.

Mike, my factory gasket was two metal ones pressed together, what factory paper gasket are you referring too. Are the metal ones reusable??

we designed new gaskets for a reason, the oem gaskets suck! well i imagine the original seal and stock car powerwise wouldnt notice any difference but we saw just how bad they leaked when pressure testing them off the car against a blanchard ground test plate we cut on the cnc.

i have videos on the computer but they are in a .3g2 format (opens in quicktime) that i took on the cell phone that clearly show what im refferring to, anyone got a convertion program to convert to a more friendly video format? wmv, avi, ect.. ?

my advice is not to ever re-use the oem gasket, or for that fact dont re-use our gaskets either, they are both designed for one use only.

Bulldogger,
When I pulled my intake manifolds off there was the metal gasket and a greenish white paper gasket that was on the head side. It was stuck in places and I had to scrape it off to get a clean surface for the NW gaskets on the 6mm phenolics.

Here is picture of one of the factory manifold gasket off my SRT6 - When I purchased the phelonic spacers - LET sent me two sets of gaskets that were exactly the same - in a Mercedes-Benz package with the OEM part number. Nothing green or paper - nor did mine stick or get damage when they were removed. I just chose to use the new set.

No issues with mine. Just make sure to first snug the bolts and then torque to the factory specs in the proper sequence.

Yep, I have that part too. There was also that paper one. Interesting...maybe someone stuck it on after market... everything looked stock though. It is gone now so it dosent matter.

Yes I should point out I have a C3 s/c pulley so maybe that contributed to it.... But, using a tube to my ear, its a deafening PSSSSSSSSSS coming from one small section of the stock gasket. Maybe I'll see more once I do the swap...

I have had a slight stumble while idling since I bought the car used and its gotten worse lately, so this might explain it....
