Default mystery 'whirrrring' noise at stoplights...

can someone please tell me if it is 'normal' to hear a strange 'whirring' noise every time i stop at a stop light? if i'm sitting at a complete stop, after a second or two, the noise starts, like the sound of a small power drill starting under the hood? the sound only lasts for about 5 seconds.

normal? cooling mechanism? pump? fan? secondary water pump? paranoid?

Every once in awhile I also hear a whirring noise that only lasts a few seconds when stopped, mostly when I pull into my garage. I think I read something about this before and the opinions were that it was normal.

Now, let me just add... Isn't it abnormal for this to happen all of the time? Or even when the car is hot? I thought it was meant mostly for when the car is cold, the first few stop lights, the first 10 minutes. After that I have never ever heard the injection pump whir.

So..... If this is the case, what likely needs to be replaced, fixed etc???

That's strange, because my car is just the opposite. I only hear it after the car warms up.

I only hear it for the first 30 seconds WHILE the car is warming up. Base model, do they share some of the same parts?

This sounds completely normal. If I listen sometimes I hear it when stopped.

It does seem to happen at the same time as the red light. Does anyone know what the red light does?

This will happen when ever the M.E. sees a low oxygen level in the exhaust stream. It adds air to lower emissions.

Don't let paranoia get the best of you: Drive and enjoy the car, if you spend your time waiting for something to go wrong, you miss the whole point of owning a Crossfire. It has been my experience that our cars (with the proper care) are fairly trouble-free. If something were to go wrong, the car has a fairly extensive collection of warning systems to let you know. When something breaks, you fix it ....otherwise drive on, TBW
