SRT serviced and a new problem arises
My SRT warranty is about to expire. She has just over 35,000 miles. I have had the SRT serviced regularly and took it in last week for oil and fluid changes.( $550 later) The radiator light came on so I stopped by the dealer yesterday for them to top it off. No problem.
I drove to the back and the service mgr came out to say hello. They quickly grabbed the antifreeze and topped it off.
While I was talking to the svc mgr I told him my shifter was moving slightly when I accelerated hard. It was not as pronounced a movement as when the motor mounts broke, but still enoungh of a movement that I thought it might be the tranmission mounts. I asked the SM if he had time for a quick ride. Initially he said no. I told him we could just run the driveway pass the work bays. He jumped in the car and I screamed down the runway with his hand on the shiter. After the 1/16 mile full out run he said he thought it was the rear end. (Whatever that means). Ok I thought and left to return when my new window moldings came in.(That's another story)
Back to today. On my way home tonight the radiator light came on again?????????? When I drove in my complex the light blinked on and off as I made a few turns (which made since if the coolant level was still low) and when I drove in the driveway the temp gauge spiked up to over 3/4. I shut the car down and restarted it after opening the hood and ever so slowly removed the cap to the reservoir.
No overflow anywhere. No strange noises. Belt ok. I called the dealer and said I would have her towed in in the morning.
Started the car back up and took a little ride. Hmmmmmmmmm. The temperature was fine. No sensor lights. '
Go figure. Could the water pump be going? It was replaced a couple of months ago. A GREMLIN.
Good thing I have an extended warranty.

Sounds like a malfunctioning thermostat, restricted radiator or bad water pump. This happened to me in another car on the interstate. I would be driving along all happy and out of nowhere it would start getting hot and I'd have to pull over and let it cool down. Then drive another 6 hours and bam, once again. On mine it was the water pump.

Thermastat replacement sounds like it should be step # 1. It was interesting to just sit there and watch the temperature spike. Who knows maybe when I slowly released the pressure in the res that that somehow solved the problem. I'll know tommorow.

Seems like a correct analysis. No problems today - to work and a 50 mile drive then back to the dealer.

I think my SRT is almost showroom new with all the parts I have had replaced.

But i want to make sure im understanding this correctly...you have now broken 2 motor mounts?
Driver or passenger side? How do you know when they break(what does the car do)? No one i know of has broken a crossfire motor mount.

Good thing you're still under warranty. I had some motor mounts on a Feiro replaced and it was pretty expensive. Of course the mid-engine didn't help things.
I just wrote about the motor mounts and did a posting about it, enjoy Woody
