PTE Modded THERMOSTAT installed
Installed the PTE thermostat in both of my XFs. No difference in operating temperature ( a hair above half ).
Hoping to see a difference once I get the tunes done.

Computer is in control of the temp, with no stat you would be about the same, fan needs to be on or steady driving. I have been kicking around a mod for the fan control, its not done yet. Woody

Well guys Iam 62 and doing so much I dont have time for more, younger, Hummmm No.
I have bought my ticket to go back if the health fails me, been on the other side and not in fear of the end. DOne most everything and at this point just doing more of the same. Not sure that adding more time is a goal worth working on, still enjoying what I have. My thought: Enjoy the path, the destination is the end.........
Now on the tune I have done it, just trying to perfect the design to make it reproducable and solid.. Dont wanna release any half baked ideas, thats worst than not releasing at all. THe tune is self correcting using an additional data monitoring compressor, adjusts for throttle position and DA. Canned tunes are adjusted for a given set of conditions and work more or less on a given day.
If you are not 100 % wide open and at a different day's DA the mixture is a bit too lean or rich depending on the conditions. Tunes areIts the best option available NOW; this is why I have been busting my pick trying to get the design of a DYNAMIC tuning capacity ready for market. SO far I can select with my laptop the f/a GOAL and the add-on computer works to make this happen. The mixture is sensed with a wideband 02 sensor to actually add or reduce fuel to get the right f/a readings desired. THis is done using adjustable fuel pressure, only 3- 6 PSIG up or down from the normal setting. I did lots of photos and a posting of this activity a while ago.
THe STOCK injectors are fully capable of FLOODING the motor while running stacked pulleys, just by using the fuel pressure adjustment approach method. I went from 17:1 to 9:1 in one fell swoop, and then sold my code 3 ( a sweet design ) cause 25 psig was too much for me here in Manassas [within 200 feet of sea level]...
Finally ( a triple write up and on a friday too)
I have worked out two fan options that are pulling me in two different directions.
A. SIMPLE and low cost method to cool down the motor when you are in line at the track drag or autox. It only works while idling and can not be utilized while PUSHING the car, the computer will not allow it. It does the job but it is a Woody type of work around and not sexy. There goes that age thing again.
B. THis approach would operate anytime including during a run, and would operate the fan at a higher speed. The speed would be in addition to the setting that the computer is asking for. THe speed would be adjustable with a simple control in the car. I dont wanna get into an argument with the computer or start playing with its "code". Its a more 'sexy' approach and consists of a small module to be added to the car, development of the pc card would slow my development, Ive done it before - lots for Fort Fumble back in the day.

All I need is a 25¢ fan mod like they have for the 300's. A little jumper cable that makes the fan run until disconnected. Just for racing. Is that so hard?

I have done that, of course, whats out there that I have not tried????????????
If you ever hook your fan up to 12V youll see why I did not suggest you do that.
A. Scary loud
B. Gonna kill the fan SOON
C. Pulls the car down the road about 6 MPH.
OUr fans operate at about 4 volts average power and when hot goes up to about 8 volts. 12 is way too much and it will not last, but dont take my word, give it a try there sport.
OH yeah youll need heavy gauge wires to keep from melting the conductors.

I too installed the PTE thermostat. My coolant temps dropped from mid guage (maybe a needles worth higher on really hot days) to 1 full tick mark below half. it will rise some if the AC is on high and it is 85+ outside - maybe half way between the half mark and the tick mark below it.
My drive is mostly highway at 55-70mph. in stop/go driving it will approach the half way mark, but as soon as I start rolling, it drops right down. It NEVER did that before.
One thing I did do - I copied Woody and did the full grill mod. I removed all of the angled bits from the slats on the grill. That has helped a lot. It is a straight shot to the radiator now.
It was 64 this morning and the guage was reading a needles worth below the second tick mark (I think the half way point is the 3rd tick mark). I need to get a pic.
I am thinking that when it gets really cold outside I am going to have to block a portion of the radiator to keep from throwing a code! I can say the car is much more responsive now. it had turned into a pig before I installed the PTE thermostat. It was always just backing hot.
Did you do the grill mod or just the thermostat?

So I need a 6 volt accessory battery to connect the fan to for track days? You know what I mean? A switch or perhaps just a battery and a bit of correct gauge wire. Unplug the fan from one and plug in the other. I guess it would be easier to remove my ECU and sent it and $800.00 to someone for a tune instead to get my fan on for track days. Oh, if only I could read schematics and knew what all those funny symbols mean. I just want the fan on at the track, not the street. I just may try it my method .... or send my money and ECU to a tuner.

Been there, done that with the fans.
Same thing happens if you hook up the supercharger clutch full time!
Guess how I know?!
good ole' heat soak...I'm still buying bags of ice between runs...take the grille out for the track...a lot less headache, and I still run with the best of them...once I have the trailer, I'll take along my farm fan to set up in front of the car...its a 4' high fan, puts out a lot of air...but, I know for autox, you need to cool longer and the mods are the only way...but this works for me to drag race once in awhile...good luck Woody, tighed1, enjoy the read...
