Default new question for the gearheads!

ok i have a c3 pulley being shipped. im also getting a sl55 intake to run on my stock boxes for now.
sooo my question is dyno testing. i know i should do a couple runs in stock form for a baseline. im told there are a bunch of dynos in the area. which dyno should i use? and does anyone know of a competent shop in the nashville ,tn area to use? looking to run it sometime in the next week or so
any info is appreciated

Doesn't really matter which one you use...I've used a DynoJet and a DynoCom. DynoJet reads the highest and a Mustang Dyno reads the lowest. You really should look at 1/4 mi times and calculate the DA to get a better reading of how well the car is performing.

To give you an example, I ran my setup (prior to re-tune on an exhaust) in cooler weather, ~70*F, and hit 345whp on a DynoCom. When it was 94*F, on the same setup and dyno, I posted a 314whp.

C3 Pulley, LET tune, and stock exhaust on a DynoJet, people were doing anywhere between 333 and 340 but it was also 65*F . Every engine is different so it's hard to say which dyno is the best one to use. Also, realize that since it's summer, the numbers might read a little low because of the warmer air.

im sure the numbers will be low with the high heat (90+) and 80% humidity. i was assuming any baseline woiuld be better than none

agreed. my preference is a dyno dynamics. however, most people use dynojets because it reads a higher number. tuning cant be done on those dynos (at least not very accurately) so i would stick with a dyno dynamics if thats an option. Eurocharged uses a dyno dynamics too. that probably says something in itself.

it would be great to have them do a dyno and tune but no funds at the present! im sure you can relate maybe in the spring ill take to the windy and have them do 1 but just looking for a baseline now before the intake and c3 are installed. when the taxes are done i think im going the dual cai needswings route.

If your tuning, use a dyno d, (load bearing dyno)

For what your doing, it really doesn't matter. What does matter, is that you always go to the same dyno when you change your mods, so you get a true reading of the deltas (changes)

Maybe I'm retarded but didn't you just sell an SL55 intake setup here?

nope your not retarded. well maybe! i sold the complete setup because it didnt fit what i wanted. i let the intake go as part of the package. im now just using a sl55 intake with my stock boxes and k&n filters to hold me over until i can afford the needswings dual cai or equivilent. didnt want to part out the setup piece by piece so i just sold the whole setup and picked up a used intake. make sense to you now?

So you just bought the Y pipe section. Gotcha. And last time I checked, I wasn't wearing a padded helmet.

thats it. when i couldnt mod the center piece to fit i just sold the whole setup. found a used splitter for under 50 so i got it and kept it stock. when the funds are saved ill look into the dual cai and see what has been developed. really hate to lose my center piece but may have no choice.

BTW, you weren't at the show this past weekend, were you? Looked all over and didn't see ya. Saw the silver 230 but nothing else European...

And of course, 35 Corvettes.

Mustang dyno's are fine. They also tend to show lower numbers than the DynoJet. I used a Mustang to do my testing after some mods so I would have a common reference. I used a DynoJet on my last dyno since one moved in about 3 miles from me.

Yep. It's only an 1/8th mile track, though.

The race is over before we would really even get enough good traction to do 100% throttle.

As for the dyno being good, I've never personally used it but Delk does great work with 'Stangs. I'm sure they might charge a lil cabbage, but a phone-call could answer those questions.

If/when you go up there, be sure to check out all of the rubber commas in front of the business. All are from freshly tuned Cobras.

That sounds about right. I pay $80 to $100 for 3 pulls, monitoring boost & AFR.
