This happens to my SRT-6 on occasions. I'm cruising along the highway with the cruise control off at about 70mph and the car does a sudden quick surge forward. It's significant enough to jerk my head back. But it only last a second or two then goes back to normal. This happened to me twice over about 100 miles this weekend.

What do you think would cause this?

I/C pump going out.. do you notice a lack of power after it happens?

No, no loss of power after it happens. I thought it could be the I/C pump. But figured a sign of it going out would be a drag of power instead of a surge.

There have been other times when I've noticed a loss of power on the highway but thought it was more heat related.

I remember driving around when my pump stopped working and it would do that on my way to work and back. It was especially noticeable going up a grade.

+1000000

Surging usually indicated I/C pump going bad...then again, when mine did it I replaced the pump and it was still doing it...finally turned out to be a bad ambient air sensor....but I would change the I/C pump first.

Looks like the key word here is "surge" not loss of power (I'd say NOT the I/C pump in this case).
When you figure out what it is maybe we can figure out how to make it "surge" all of the time for a power boost!

When the i/c is failing/fails, the car does surge when it causes the supercharger to disconnect. However an attempt to accelerate hard at that point will result in no power, no acceleration. If the i/c problem is intermittent there will be a noticeable slow down when the s/c cuts back in. This is actually the drag caused by the s/c clutch re-engaging.

Sounds just like my I/C pump. I thought it was a tranny problem. The Super would kick in and right out again due to high temps. Easy fix, better than a new Supercharger for $7200...

Are you running a Sprint Booster?

No. Only performance mod is the Needswings CAI. It had the same problem before the CAI.

I'm going to go ahead and put on a Johnson pump.
