Default Idler pulley replacement

Just curious if anyone has compared the pulley you get from the dealer and the cheap one fom Rockauto. I think the cheap one is hard plastic with NGK bearings. I am need to replace my stock one and would like to save the money if they are equivalent. I know there is a small push for "C3 Pulley Saver" kit but it's not here and I need it now. Anyone wanna chime in, please.

The factory pulley is plastic also... I havent tried one from Rockauto, but I did have one in my hands and it looks identical.....

edit: I assumed SC idler pulley. If you meant the Idler, then Gates makes a metal pulley that works fine.

that is the tensioner... the idler is the small one up next to the S/C pulley, or in my case, down above the alt. pulley.

Just for reference, there are two idlers.... the SC idler(65mm?) that sits just to the left of the SC pulley and the Idler pulley(90mm?) that sits above the water pump pulley.... the SC Idler is plastic and the Idler is steel.

FYI, the idler pulley is the same size and configuration as the tensioner pulley. If your tensioner pulley bearing goes out, just get an idler pulley to replace it as it is cheaper than having to buy the new tensioner assembly.

I didn't know that, about the idler and tensioner pulley being the same. Thanks again Mike.

jason i used the rock auto pulley . it is working fine. added i also sent another rock auto pulley to mike to machine down and the bearing lasted about 5 minutes! no fault of mike just a bad pulley. the pullies are identical but either m/b or rock auto they both need to be built better
dont forget shipping for the rock auto pulley. raises the cost to about 30$

mike the tensioner pulley ( the metal one) can be had at autohauz for about 50$ and is an easy swap. no need to get a new tensioner

I really I really needed to know how to replace the idle pulley and you talked about everything but that so I didn't get any help on how to replace the idler pulley on a 2006 Chrysler Crossfire
