Front left knocking noise
Hello Guys,
When I drive over bumps and pot-holes slowly (sub 15mph) I can hear a knocking noise coming from the front left hand side (near side US, far side UK).
I had the lower front Control Arm bushings checked out by the garage and they all seemed to be in good working order. The wheel bearings too. They garage did not know what the problem was on initial inspection.
The noise is still there and I have it booking into another garage for a more thorough inspection on the 20th of this month.
When stopped I have tried shaking the car from side to side and back and forth with manual force and I have had it jacked up to try and shack/bend/wrench the wheel in question back and forth, no noise.
The 'knocking' sounds quite hollow in pitch and I'm wondering if the upper front Control Arm bushings may have worn and that is where the noise is coming from.
The car has only done 20k but when I bought it the wheel's (in question) tracking was slightly out of alignments. Not sure if that indicative of a knock..., it could, of course be our poorly maintained British Country Roads!
Thoughts?
Andy

You may have a shop try a device that turns the front wheel , with it on the car. It spins the t&w at high rpm. I think this device was used when they did spin balance with t&w on car! It sure will find a out of round tire are slipped belt!
