What version C3 pulley is this?
Hi all,
I've been looking for a used Code3 pulley for a while and finally located one. However, the seller is unsure as to which revision pulley this one is... but he did supply me with a picture.
Those of you who have the latest version of the C3, does this look like it?
Thanks.

from what i was told its a gen 1 version. same as mine. get a new bearing and run it!! is it stainless or aluminium? the early versions ran the slots
Hmmm... not what I was hoping to hear. He told me that he just got it 6 months ago and it only has 3-4k miles on it. Are you all sure this is a 1st gen? I'm a little hesitant to buy a first gen pulley because of it's tendency to shred belts.
The first generation was shredding belts because of instal errors (I believe). It's real easy to be off a rib. As I understand it, the one you have grips the belt better than the rest but was changed because people were blaming the slots for eating the belt. Try it, watch for sighs of slipping and stay positive. You may have the best version without knowing it.

the belt shredding occured due to the sharp edges of the slots digging into the belts and ripping them. as the pulley wore the problem ceased. he then went to the no slot design to elinimate any further issues.
c3 pulleys are getting harder to find, if the pulley is solid and without excessive wear buy it and enjoy it. mine was bought used and i have had zero problems with the pulley except it temds to wear out my rear tires!!

buy it while you still can....I have both cars with them, never a problem...you just have to take your time and shim them correctly....actually both required 0 shims...
1st gen.code 3 (65mm). I never had a problem with mine,in fact i still have it.I have a 178 c/p on the car so i then purchased a midsize (68mm) to run stacked, but many leaning issues storys on the forum ended that setup. I have since purchased a sl55 fuel pump and the tvt injectors but now i'm thinking of bringing it back to stock and selling it and all the performance parts. If i had to do it over i would just run the c3 65mm s/c pulley, a duel nw intake system, a nw pulley saver kit,a larger heat exchanger and a tune and that would be it. sorry, i got carried away. Great discussion guys. Thanks for the input, I'll go ahead and get it anyways... I didn't realize the belt shredding was a user error problem and not a design problem.
32krazy, you mentioned getting a new bearing... What do you mean by this? The pulley is supposed to be like new, so I'm not sure why I'd need anything other than the shims...

The picture looks just like mine. I got the third generation aluminum one before C3 went to HPworks. Seller is probably teeling the truth about it being pretty new, but grabbing a new bearing is sound advice because it is better to have one when it starts to go bad than to wait on one when it fails.

Well, whatever version it is I guess I'll have to deal with it since they're becoming so rare. I still don't understand why I need a new bearing if it only has a few thousand miles on it... if I have to change the bearing every few thousand miles for $50 bucks a pop, I don't think I want this pulley anyway... that's why too damn expensive to replace once every few months.
I'm not questioning the advice though, because I know next to nothing about this stuff.
EDIT: I did some more research, and I think we had our wires crossed... I thought the bearing came WITH the pulley as part of the pulley... now that I know what a bearing is, it appears you were talking about the OEM bearing that's already on the car. My Xfire only has 8,000 miles on it, so the bearing really doesn't have that much use on it... so does your advice still stand? I'm not buying a part because it "might fail" later on down the road if the one I have on there is damn near good enough already. The one I have on my car should be identical to the NGK OEM bearing that hpa sells on their website. Just for reference, this is the one you are talking about (?):

what im saying to you is your buying a used pulley. the previous owner doesnt what gen it is so it may used to him also. you dont really know how many miles are on the pulley. so invest 50$ and swap the bearing out while its off the car. now you have a pulley that will perform without any issues for a very long time. its not mandatory just preventative.
while you have this apart i would also suggest you have rob at needswings send you a c3 pulley saver kit. worth every penny and no more bad bearings to worry about
