Default tire advice

I know there is a tire page, but didn't see the review I was looking for and wanted the SRT only version of the story.

Has anyone used Falken FK 452?

225/40R-18XL 92Y BSW
255/35R-19XL 96Y BSW
Treadware 300
Temp A
Traction A
Z rated

This is a step down from OEM. Prices quoted are 144 (F) 195 (R) with good wet handling. I will be taking this car to Germany in January and it will be cold and wet to this Florida resident!

Any help would be great.

I bought them for my rears in January in Ocala, Fl and have put on about 3800 miles so far. I keep them at 36 lbs, and have only needed to add 2 lbs once. No tire noise, and not a lot of noticeable wear. I won't be using them in snow and ice, and very little in the rain, unless I'm caught in it. So I can't comment on those. But other than that, they're great ..... probably a little known secret, as far as I'm concerned. I also. didn.t want to drop the $$$ for Mich pilot sports, and I've never regretted it....... just my $'02

Check the local laws in the part of Germany you are going. Some require M+S (mud and snow) rated tires. I went with the Bridgstone RE960 A/S (all Season), they also have a 40k warrantee...
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position

I've had them on for about 6-mo and have been satisfied with thier wet and dry handling. (FWIW, I was constantly hydroplaning down here in FL with the Falkens-NOT safe)

BTW, I'm moving to Geilenkirchen in February...

This is good advice. I have them and will, when needed buy them again. BUT, they are Summer (no snow/ice) rated tires. Not the best choice, perhaps, for Germanic winters...

I heard that too about winter tires required in parts. That will stink, but hopefully A/S will fit the bill.

I saw the RE960AS on the AAFES website, but didn't see the price. I'm headed to Stuttgart in January.

Thanks for the reply, exactly what I was looking for!

I'm out of town right now, so I couldn't tell you exactly what I paid, but I think it was around $750 total. Of course I have the smaller 17" wheels on my SLK. I figured the slight higher cost would be recovered with the 40k warrantee. I told the guy "see you in 20k" and laughed...

BTW, I also ran a set of Fuzion zRi tires... got about 17k out of them... if you want to count the lat 3k when they were almost slicks...

Let's plan for an AMG factory visit in the spring!

I shopped on line last night. I will have to order them in, but think I will go that direction. I emailed a guy in Germany already and the replies were about 50/50 out of his office that all seasons will fit the bill for mud/snow requirement. Most haven't even bothered just counting on not being involved in an accident.

He did mention that Stuttgart had an usually heavy snow fall last winter and you will be well north of there. He also said the AAFES shop is terrible and any repair takes forever to get parts and is crazy expensive. I imagine you will be better off with a true domestic car. Hopefully I will catch a brake with a domestic drivetrain.

The AMG tour is a must! I think we PCS about the same time so I will ping you on a PM when up and running over there. Stuttgart is good for the new Mercedes museum and Porsche factory tour.

I will let you know how the tires work out. Thanks for the link and help.
