A question about High Mileage...
So, I introduced myself in another thread and mentioned I am looking to buy an SRT-6... Truth is I really SHOULD wait for about 6 months before buying it due to some work being done on my house and the costs associated with it, BUT, I have been bitten by the bug to get one soon. (And you guys aren't helping!
)
Ideally I would like to find one that has already been slightly modified so that I can focus on my other cars for mods... This is what originally brought me here and I HAVE been watching the For Sale section for a few weeks now...
Additionally though, if I could get one at a GREAT price not modified it would work out ok too as I would have more money to work on it out of the gate. With that said, I have seen a few going in the Low 14s, high 13s on Autotrader.
The question is though, those with low prices tend to have higher mileage. In fact one right now for mid $13s has just under 100,000 miles. Truth is, I am buying this car to drive it, A LOT (I travel for work). I usually dont worry too much about mileage, I have rebuilt a few engines and replaced some gaskets before and thats usually all to worry about, but since this will be a car used for work I need MINIMUM down time....
In your experience, how big of a risk is this, to take one of these engines sitting at 100K miles already drop an intake, Pulley and Tune on and then run the heck out of it for atleast 3- 4 years?
(I am meticulous about keeping up with oil changes, changing and maintaining all the fluids etc, so keep that in the equation.)
***EDIT: I have decided to hold off on a lower mileage option, see post #9 for more detail, THANKS EVERYONE!

While on the topic, if anyone has or knows of an Aero Blue or SSB ROADSTER SRT-6 For Sale, let me know.
Again, I prefer one with a few performance mods already done (Intake, Pulley, Tune, the basics) which is why I havent jumped on those on Auto Trader yet.

eDirect Motors - Quality Cars & Motorcycles as EASY as CLICK, BUY, SHIP ™...
Coupe, 59K miles, $13.5K

I'd keep looking if I were you. $13K for an almost 100,000 mile car? Pretty steep price when you can find 35,000 to 50,000 mile examples for only a couple of thousand more $$. If that is an individual selling that car I would negotiate the price down to somewhere around $10k.

I actually found another similar thread a few lines down asking what to check on an SRT so thats a good start listing the common failures such as valve covers, IC Pump, Crank Sensor, etc. Sounds like most of those are already happening fairly early so maybe those with higher mileage would already have them fixed...
All good info!

Thanks for the tip though, that particular one wasnt the right color either so I was already going to pass but you have helped me answer the price to mileage question!
You get what you pay for. I didn't do much research and impulse bought an SRT for $13.5 w/70k on it. Mechanically and elec. I've had zero problems beside a burnt out smog pump. Cosmetically it needs work, pay a couple thousand more and you can get a pristine low mileage one.
If you want one to run forever, consider the n/a. It's not as fast but they should go well over 100k with regular maintenance. And they are $000s cheaper than an SRT6.
Thanks for the responses guys!
After spending much more time on here than I should have, I beleive I have narrowed down my search...
I have decided it is going to be SSB in color, still keeping with the roadster and SRT model and I am going to TRY to hold out for one under 50K miles in the mid $15Ks for starters but would consider a few $K more if it already had some work done to it.
So now to finalize the mod list! On my last car I had mods already sitting at the house before I even took ownership of the car.... I am trying REAL hard to resist but its not easy!
