Katt Matrix: Just how accurate is this device
So, sometime back, when folks on the forum were talking about these
devices, I bought one of the Katt Matrix units. I've used it a couple of
times, but have had it out of the car for a while, as I had the windshield
replaced a couple months ago.
So, my question, just how accurate are these 3-axis accelerameters?
Reason I ask, this past Sunday morning, I found myself a nice quite stretch
of road with a 55mph speed limit, turned on the unit, calibrated and set for a
0-60mph test.
Stepped on the gas when the light changed, but not enough to spin the tires
much, and shortly put the pedal to the floor. The Katt Matrix reported
a 0-60mph time of 4.136. So, I tried a couple more times. One with just
mashing the gas from the get go (lots of tire spin and nice twin tracks on
the ground) and got a 4.42 seconds from 0-60mph.
My previous best was a 4.3, so these seem somewhat consistent, but I'd
be really amazed if I was turning 4.1 seconds to 60 mph. I did recently
install K&N filters, so I would expect a tiny performance increase, but I'd
be quite pleased to find this device is accurate to within a 10th or two.

That's what my G-Tech say's my car does on the 0-60, never heard of a Katt Matrix. This run was done with the TC on, just stomping it.

off. And from my results, I'd say I get better performance getting moving
with a little throttle, and then pushing down hard on the gas once I'm
rolling. I'd say, shaving nearly a second off the manufacturer stated time
of 5 seconds in the 0-60 dash is pretty awesome.

I done some runs @ US 41 with the G-Tech on & it was pretty close to matching my slips. So I'd say they are fairly accurate. The picture I posted has the 1/8th on it (8.101 @ 91.86) & one of the slips I have in my gallery shows 8.079 seconds @ 86.49 mph. Comparing the time & mph difference it looks reasonably close.

second off the manufacturer stated 0-60 time with the few mods I've
added. Think I'll need to run over to Dyno Lab and get a new dyno
test. $65 for 3 pulls ain't too bad.
