Good luck with the rebuild.

We had it all back out in a little over 2 hours. It's not really hard to do it with the lift but more of just depressing you have to do it. Definitely a two person job so glad Paul didn't put up an objection to helping me take it all back out after we just put it in. He could have said 'you broke, you take it out yourself' but he's a rock star and I'm really glad to be able to work with the guy!

Rudy,

You may want to look into the R171 SLK55 drive shaft and diff and see if it is compatible and maybe strongger or could be made to work. CLK55 might also be similar.

The SLK55 has a different front section as the trans flange is different from ours but the rear section (part that failed) and everything else is the same between the two.

I really don't think you need an upgraded driveshaft. I'd venture to say: the diff shelled, the chucks locked the rear, and all that torque had to go somewhere...

Definately sucks though!

Wow! I really don't know about you guys!

Rudy needs the stress reliever? Really? What the Hell about me?

What Rudy needs to do is stop breaking chit! LOL!

Steve I didn't know he said he was going to get a DashDaq bracket for you but if you send me the crisp twenty I'll see what I can do

We got quite a bit done today on car number two. So like Rudy's earlier post said, we had the broken drive train out of his six in a couple of hours. So he was NOT "Laid out" under his car today.

But for all of you that are wondering just how much you can fit into our little engine compartment; you can fit exactly one 55K engine or...

And you thought we shoehorned the 55K into my car!

All stay safe and more to come...

I was thinking about this on the way into work this morning. when I punch the car at 40-50mph, getting it to downshift to 2nd and just take off, I notice that the rear end moves back and forth. Imagine the right rear trying to out run the left rear. I am not talking a loss of traction and associated fish tailing, just one side of the rear end trying to go faster than the other (forward flex). Could this flex in the 5 link rear suspension be a major contributing factor in the diff's granading themselves? The diff is getting major rotational stress from the driveshaft and what I perceive as major lateral stress from the flex in the suspension control links.

thoughts?

KrzyFast,

I'm sure what you are suggesting is possible but I suspect you're feeling the traction control. I can tell you that I have experienced this torque transfer in every SRT I've driven. Rudy's car did it and when we put the 55 K motor in my car it is even more pronounced.

Do the same maneuver but remove your traction control and see what you feel. I can tell you from experience in my car you'd better be holding on! The torque transfer is gone and you are accelerating sideways down the road with both rear tires spinning. Not for the faint of heart !

We were able to experience the same thing in Rudy's car (to a lesser degree) as well. If I had to guess you are feeling the traction control rather than suspension flex...

Stay safe...

see now paul it was me buggin rudy for the left side bracket that got him to envision the 1 he built for you. now i need to get him to quit breakin stuff so he can build me 1.

as for what fits in the engine bay if that big butt of his fits in there then the v12 should be an ez fit!!!
and your stress reliever is painted yellow and is the baddest ride on the forum!!

MisterTaz,
I feel this sensation with the TC OFF, and the light is not flashing as it is doing it. Again, I am talking about punching it from a 50mph roll on dry pavement. It could be the wheels spinning slightly, but the TC light is not flashing. It feels more like flex to me. If I accelerate on wet pavement - totally different feeling. Now that is full on tire slip, TC engagement (even when off) and the beginning of a fish tail, but I do not get the sensation of suspension flex.
