Hello all, i'm new to the forum, I currently own a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire SSB NA and I LOVE IT and was looking into maybe purchasing a 2005 SRT6, I've found one that's going for about 14k and it has about 54,000 miles on it. The owner says they've had all the recommended services and it's a clean title. I also live in California if that makes any difference on the price. What do you guys think about that deal? What are the things to look for when inspecting the SRT6? Thanks for all the comments in advance.

 

It depends if your ok with trading price for mileage. Also any possible warranty. Since you currently own an N/A do you do your own work on it or take it to the dealer? If so then you should be ok and expect to spend a few bucks here and there if and when issues arise.

Mines for sale but $4k more with 44,000 less mileage with warranty. That $4k is huge if it means you couldn't own an SRT6.

 

A 2005 is six seasons old so there are going to be more and more high mileage SRT6s coming up for sale. As you know from your SSB, these are Mercedes SLKs underneath and are pretty darn reliable. The risk on the SRT6 is the supercharger failing or the tranny having been abused. Test drive it carefully and thoroughly. Not much you can do to protect against a s/c failure other than a aftermarket warranty, and I do no believe in them. Bottom line, 54k miles saves you about $36k in price from the original sticker.

 

$14k means $13.2....lol......I'd buy it if it checks out OK>......

 

my .02 gleaned from owning over 40 classic to new vehicles is to get the lowest mileage, best condition vehicle you can find. even a vega, if that's what you want. 54k miles on this car is a little high, price is low if driven as an average daily driver in our golden state. prices in calif. have been on the slight uptick the past 6-8 months for crossfires. since you are familiar with the NA, the driveline and ride is what will first startle you. if you like that (i did), then it sounds like a decent deal. look for how many owners, carfax, i/c pump replacement, tires, oil changes, air/cabin filters. me? i prefer stock, no mods. just like they minted it out of osnabruck.

They haven't mentioned any warranty, I do the little jobs such as the brake pads and rotors and oil changes, I haven't really needed to mess with anything else on my xfire as of yet. If I didn't live so far away with work and everything, I definitely would like to check out that SRT6 of yours, but right now I'm a little busy, in about a month and a half or so, if you're still selling it, I might have to take a trip to see it, it looks really beautiful in the pictures of the ad.

 

Nope that would depend on too many variables. Only S/C's that I've read on here that have failed was due to overboost issues. Not common and locating a used one from a failed motor would be the only chance at getting one that isn't the half the cost of that car. New wouldn't make sense financially on a 14k car or would park the until your financially able to repair it. The S/C on this car will last as long as any other component with the normal maintenance required.

 

After owning this car for 3 1/2 years I feel comfortable changing just about any part with the exception of the internals of the major components. I like to wrench so that makes it easier for me, but I'm not a mechanic. Sure if I still have it come on down.
