Unhappy Goin Gauge Crazy

With all the new mods being installed in the spirng, i decided it was time to start some shopping for some nice gauges for the car. I searched to fourm to see what others have been using but didnt find too much info.

So really, i want 3 gauges, A wideband A/F guauge, a boost gauge, and intake temp guage. And as many of them analog as possible.

First ill start with the A/F Gauge. I began looking around, and found a nice AEM gauge that i thought would go with the rest of the gauges that i plan on going for. (black with brushed/chrome bezel) and the A/F gauge in my mind is the most important gauge of them all so thats why i wanted to go with a wideband one.

I also saw the Zeitronix, and the PLX gauges, what is kind shying me away from them is the need for extra add on moduels and such, im a little iffy on those gauges. PLX however has these new OLED (DM-100) gauges that are basicaly like a small LCD screen that you can config and such, they look pretty cool. But once agian, what would i need to get these to do what i want (at 210$ a pop) 3 gauges add up pretty quick. So i think the AEM is the route i want to go. (also mainly because the other gauges ill have to order from the US, and shipping has always been a pain a single 200$ gauge ends up costing me 350$+) Maby i can get them shipped to me when im in the US in a few months. Let me know what you guys think on which route to go. AEM or PLX-DM-100 series. If i do the PLX, ill go PLX DM-100 on all 3 gauges ($1000 ouch).

So next is the Boost gauge.

I found this sick looking boost gauge from autometer, its part of their Carbon fiber lineup, and they have a Boost and intake temp gauge that match.

Thing is the intake gauge is around 300$, so that causes me to veer toward the PLX system. there is however another intake temp gauge i found

Its very cost effective at around 60$ but doesnt mention if it comes with sensors, and personaly looks a bit too basic. and its not analog.

hey guys help me make a decision. The gauges will be inset into a 3 gauge pillar that im going to make and will be wraped in a black suede to match the seats, and "future" headliner. Thats where i think the black gauge and silver trim ring will look good.

Please post up some pics so i can see what others have done

In my opinion, I think the AEM gauge with the silver around the bezel would match the stock instrument cluster the best. There's no chrome in the interior, so I don't think the Autometer ones would look good at all. Lastly, depending on the material that you wrap the pillar pod with, the PLX gauges might blend right into the into it and look decent.

Definitely show pics of the pillar pod - I need one as well and any ideas would be helpful!

I got my hopes up with Hyprlth20's gauge pod and gauge setup he was making, but when I got them they were total cr@p and I sent the pillar back and am still contemplating whether I want to use the gauges (Wideband 02 and boost).

we run the zeitronix zt-2 + dashdaq and boost sensors on all our cars, check them out, we have the setup on sale right now. there are dozens of us srt6 racers that use it and we can all compare datalogs

that combo will let you view/record
rpm
tps
afr (wideband)
boost
ait
coolant temp
timing
speed
and about 20 other perameters

let me know if you have any questions about them

Wow that is a sweet setup, I was thinking about going the same route as Sik SRT, but I think I like this option better. The biggest hassle will be building some type of custom enclosure that doesn't take away from the interior look.

Well guys i thought i would update on the gauge decision.

I went with the PLX system. after pricing the mix of gauges AEM...autometer...etc to get my A/F, boost, and the outragously priced intake temp gauge (of which ill be installing the sensor after the supercharger), they added up almost to the price of a full tilt PLX system. and man, this PLX system is freakin cool!. They are on their way right now, cant wait to test hook them up and see what they look like. I got a AWESOME package deal on 3 DM-200 gauges (60mm), the intake temp module, A/F module, boost module. They sync together and also allow me to data log if i wanted too. But the real deal maker was the fact that the gauges were fully customizable. If i wanted to i can have the SRT-6 logo show up when you start the car, then make gauge backgrounds that exactly match the orginal crossfire gauges. All of which you can design on the computer, and upload to the gauge. I CANT WAIT!!

Plus!, they are super low profile, so i can easily flush them into the spare pillar i have, and they will barely stick out.

if you contact rudy he can fab you a sweet bracket that mounts just above the dash on the left like mister taz has on his xfire. allows full view if the dashdaq and still out of the way

As soon as you get everything installed Sik Srt6 I will meet up with you to see how it all turns out! I have always liked the looks of multiple guages but decided against it for this car. I have the zetronix+DashDaq on its way so you can have a look at this setup and compare.

No problem Beaner, we will definetly have to get together durin the spirng/summer.

Well folks got the parcel tag in the mail today, and raced over to the postoffice to pick up the new gadgets! Just like a kid in the candy store, couldnt wait to try it out.

Here are some pic of the exact P/N's ive ordered incase anyone was wondering for themselves. It was a bit confusing trying to figure out what i needed to get to get the whole thing up and running. but its just as simple as picking a gauge style, and a sensor moduel, and your off to the races.

I quicky unpacked one of the gauge kits, and the AIT sensor; seeing that that sensor will be able to actualy work without being hooked up to the car. Found a gell cell 12v batt layin around, and set everything up on the kitchen table.

With just a basic setup i had the thing workin away. Theres lots of menus and stuff to fine tune the gauges to your liking. I just quickly found a basic display style to try out. They have all the custom downloadable gauge styles on the PLX site, and once i get some time, ill make up some custom crossfire matching gauge faces to upload.

As you can see below, the house was 21-22 right on.. I held the sensor in my hand and it quickly shot up to 28-30ish, and went back down. Its not the fastest reaction time that i would of expected, but im sure thats just a limitation of the sensor itself (satinless housing.. thermal conductivity speed, etc.) but it will be more then enough for what i want to do with it. 2-3 sec reaction time is good for me.

You can tinker with the gauge colours right through the menus as well.

Overall, I cant wait to start workin on the pillar pod, and get these things hooked up.. But im gonna have to wait till spring its gonna be one heck of a busy spring!. SC pulley, intercooler, wavetrac, gauges.. tig weld exhaust bung.., and radio. woo!
