Default All Possible Upgrades

I'm looking to boost the engine performance in the SRT6. I don't have much experience with this but my plan was to get the contact information for people selling them, and have someone else install them.

My question here is what would you recommend as I have no budget.

Main upgrades for a substantial gain would be CAI, Pulley and Tune. The stock exhaust is pretty decent on cars, but I only made changes to mine to enhance the sound by removing the resonator and rear cats. Good luck!

Thank you for the fast reply.

Forgot to ask as well any specific places that you'd recommend looking for outside eBay, these forums, etc for parts?

Also note that the overall goal here is I am looking to increase the HP on the crossfire overall.

All the information you'll ever need is on this forum. The search button is your best friend. I learned so much just from being on here and my car really haul's butt with the few mods I've done.

hate to be a downer but this isnt the car you want to be modding if you have no budget. its all mercedes underneath and with little aftermarket support parts arent cheap. cai, pulley and tune will set you back close to 2k$ lsd another 1400$ exhaust another 800$ see what i mean?

best advice woud be decide what you want the power for. ie: autocross, road racing, drag racing. then form a plan based on the searches from here of what you want to do. then hunt surf and pray your the first to buy the used items that pop up or save hard and buy them new. either way get ready for a ride!

as for outside the forum needswings and eurocharged are about it. some folks have custom parts made but again it isnt cheap. dont forget suspension also gets the power to the ground and datalogging helps to know what the engine is doing. at 30k$ for a new engine you dont want to lunch a piston

I understand and I don't expect to go overkill on this but it would be nice to upgrade it a bit. Just seeing what options I have and there is a lot of content on here just takes a long time to sort through it all.

really it isnt that diffucult.
1. you 3 choices on crank pulleys or a s/c pulley ..c3, 178,181,185
2. you have 4 choices on intakes n/w single, dual, sl55 intakes or custom diy
3. you have 5 choices on tunes e/c, inmotion, kleeman, renntech, speedriven
anything else you do builds on top of these mods. ie: you can add n/w manis to the intakes , bigger injectors, exhaust, etc.

OK. I understand where you're coming from. I was there a while ago too. I did it all one step at a time.

There are two vendors you need to know when dealing with Crossfires: NeedsWings (Performance auto parts & aftermarket auto accessories for your car, specializing SRT4, Crossfire SRT6, SLK32, C32 AMG, VR-4) and Eurocharged (www.eurocharged.com). There are other vendors, but these two are the best.

The first thing you want to do is get a cold air intake (CAI). You have three basic options for a CAI:
NeedsWings Single-Sided CAI ($450)
Mercedes SL55 Intake (buy the parts of the Merc SL55's intake and install them - I have no idea how much they cost.)
And build your own. (This is usually cheapest, and the performance is directly related to your know-how and ability to fab up parts. Most people can't do this.)

The second thing you want is a pulley. There are a couple options here.
Code3 Pulley - cheapest, but manufacturer went out of business and they are hard to find (used to list for $650)
178mm pulley - (from NeedsWings $970)
181mm pulley - (from Eurocharged $800)
185mm pulley - (from Eurocharged $1000)
(Just so you know, Eurocharged has a sale right now on the 181mm and a tune for $999 - that's a very good price!)

Lastly you will want a tune. Realistically, you have two choices here:
Eurocharged - $600
InMotion - $350 or $500 (one is a canned tune and one is a custom tune)

If you have the cash right now ($1449) get the trifecta: NeedsWings Single-Sided CAI and the 181mm pulley/tune combo deal.

If not, then get the CAI first. Enjoy it. You'll notice the added power and the cool supercharger whine right away.

Then get the pulley. You'll notice another immediate boost in power.

Then get the tune. You won't notice a huge boost in power like you did with the pulley, but you'll notice it. And you'll notice how it just keeps on pulling as you accelerate.

With those three things you'll have one hell of a car. Of course, you can always add more. But since you said you're on a limited budget, I'll leave it at that.

I am new to the forum and read your post the three thing you mention CAI,pulley and tune can all be done on a stock 2005 Srt6 with relative safety to the engine. My crossfire has only 15,000 miles on it and runs great. Thank you, Tacomad

I was more than happy with just the DCAI from Needswings and a tune from Eurocharge. In fact I was spinning the rear tires in 2nd gear and was a bit frustrated by that. I'm more of a mountain runner/AutoX/track day kind of guy. Many on here are into drag racing and need a hell of a lot more horsepower to have fun. Well at least the kind of fun they were after.

Steve said it right, decide what you want to do with the car and mod accordingly. One thing at a time so you can fine tune your skill for each one. Jumping in with a wad of cash and adding 50 to 70 horse on a car that wasn't designed for it could lead you into a disaster.

Good luck and happy modding

I guess I could have worded it better, What I was asking is can all three mods be added to a stock SRT6, is it designed for that much added horsepower?and I thought the stock SRT6 had 310 hp to start with.

SRT has 330 crank horse to start with. Yes, there are plenty of people here with many miles on those mods.

Tacomad, YES!! I have the 181 pulley, NW dual CAI, EC tune and moded plenums and a few other minor(?) things.... I still get ~23mpg on trips and have a blast when I take it down to Woodburn drags...

The intake is relatively easy to install. I'm no mechanic and it took me about a half an hour.

The pulley is another story. If you're not a real gear-head, I would have a shop install the pulley. (A Code3 pulley is different, though. They are very easy to install. I did that myself.)

The ECU tune can happen a couple different ways:
1) Remote Tune: you buy a cable (or special tuning device) from the tuner (or borrow one from a friend) and using an internet-connected-laptop and the special cable, the tuner can tune your car at your home while he's in Chicago or Texas or California or wherever.
2) The ol Switcharoo: You remove the ECU from the car and ship it to the tuner. He tunes it and sends it back. You reinstall the ECU in your car. Of course, you can't drive your car without an ECU, so your car is down while the ECU is being shipped/tuned.
3) The Old Fashioned Way: you drive your car to the tuner's shop and he tunes it for you and you drive home. This is great if you live near the tuner. Not so great if you don't.
