Need help! Messed car up at dragstrip!
Did you ever do the throttle reset? I recall having a similar issue about a month ago after I did my fuel kit install... it acted like a throttle body issue and I did a reset as a first basic step... problem has not come back...

yes sir...and you don't want to run the car this way...it causes a lean condition, and can burn a piston on the cylinder the leak is close to....get her fixed...mine are checked everytime I run now....

Can you descibe how to do an incense test?

Sure enough the rear of my passenger side intake manifold was sucking the air in, and upon further inspection, I saw a crack in the gasket
ha, an old hot rod trick. Haven't heard of doing it in a long time. Cheers for finding the culprit. With the vacuum leaking that bad the catch can will make more noise than usual, trying to remain in positive pressure. That could be some of your noise. Was for me anyway.

I just hope this completely solves it (and the noises coming from the throtte body)
If your in a hurry just get some from the Mercedes dealer. I tell them I have a 2002 SLK AMG and they look them up. I can't remember how much I paid but it wasn't bad.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, BM. I also had the P050x codes (503 and 509 in my case, if I remember correctly). And the culprit was intake manifold gaskets. I had actually blow all six ports!
What a fun time that was. LOL
Rob will sort you out. He's the best.

Thanks for all the help guys. (And just an fyi, when the IAT sensor popped out on a test drive, it had pretty much the same symptoms)

Rob suggested that I take an incensce stick, light it, start the car (cold so the radiator fan is off) and take the stick (which put off a decent amount of white smoke) and move it around the intake manifolds and y pipes and such and observe if it's sucking the air in anywhere.

Another quick way(with engine running) is to spray some ether/carb cleaner/brake cleaner around your manifolds(and anything that could possibly cause a vacuum leak) and if there is an issue it will suck it in and you will hear a noticeable RPM increase when you spray a leaking area.
I thought of that as well, use to use WD-40...but it is messy...lol...Glad you are back on the road, keep an eye on torquing down those screws...I use blue lock tite...but even that hasn't worked 100%.
I know this is an old thread, but I am suffering every symptom to a T (almost word for word) as the guy from the original post. The difference in my case is that this was my first start up (car has sat all winter) in months. And since then I purchased the Needswings gasket kit (from valve covers up). I have torques them all to spec. I installed Robs cork gaskets (as I'm gonna be in the 20psi+ range) initially startup and actually scary. She idled so spiratic (bouncing back and forth from 1600-2400 rpms non stop) and heard a loud hissing from near the throttle body and/or y-pipe. I got scared and shut her off. This was her first start up since adding SL55 fuel pump/filter, AEM fuel regulator (set to 65psi), asp178psk, 550cc injectors, ported/coated y-pipe, ported coated SC inlet, optima redtop battery, new throttle body rubber spacer/gasket, polished intake runners, end of rail fuel pressure gauge.
The first CEL I got was 0105- "manifold absolute pressure/barometric pressure circuit" since it was the first heat up since installing new gaskets, I retorqued them down to 10th lbs. They actually were loose after torqing them initially.
I cleared the code and started her back up.
Although the hissing continued, that code didn't resurface. A different code did. She was idling higher then normal. Never below 1500rpms. She threw a 0507 code "idle control system rpm higher than expected"
When taking my y-pipe off to be sent to rob, I ended up breaking one of the clips on the AIT sensor. It felt like it was still I tight fit with one clip so I reinstalled it. I just checked it and it APPEARS to still be seated correctly. Maybe not?
Also wonder if I just need to do a throttle reset? I remember last year I backed out of a parking space, put it in drive and the pedal didn't work. I was freaking out I kept flooring it and flooring it and it would just coast. I crawled to the side of the parking lot and did a throttle reset and it was fine. I have a sprint booster installed. I don't know if this has anything to do with it as it's installed correctly. If it wasn't, it would never work to begin with.

Try the reset but you have a leak. The hissing and improvement after re torquing the manifolds is a clear indication of where to look. I'm afraid you pinched a gasket or it squirted out of place during installation. Just in case I'm wrong, check the IAT sensor and hose that slides on the underside of the throttle body. The connections from Y pipe to manifold too.
I was constantly replacing those cork gaskets. Too much torque and they leak, not enough and they leak, uneven torque during installation and they leak …. you get the picture. Once, I managed to instal them with the gasket out of place on one port. I went stock gaskets with copper spray and the torture of leaks stopped.

Wut is this copper spray u speak of and can i find it anywhere locally? Can it withstand 20psi+?
