Wanting to confirm a possible problem
I noticed a few days ago when I shifted into reverse I had a clunk, almost like my tranny fluid was low. I tested it a few times and then it stopped and acted fine. So far so good until tonight while sitting at a car meet. As I left the meet I noticed my shifter jerking toward neutral but only when I had it in the lowest gear and jumping on the throttle. It never went into neutral though and the car itself drove perfectly fine. Another thing is I've yet to notice a leak, it's garaged so it would be obvious if there was. Is it possible it's just due for a change? I'm guessing so as it's at 74,000 miles, I just want to make sure my tranny isn't going to fall off my car after changing everything.
BTW I searched. I seen people saying they heard clunking but it was consistent, mine isn't. I also read where a few had their cars popping into neutral, mine seems to want to but hasn't yet.

I apologize if I sound like a smartass but I'm asking in the SRT section. SRT's only come with automatic. It kind of weirds me out with this problem as our shift linkage is electronic if I recall, which means the shifter shouldn't be moving at all even if there's a problem. I could see this happening on a TH350 which has a fully mechanical linkage.

mine did the same thing, even after changing the fluid and filter.

I do have a NAG1 tranny model in my 300 and have had a problem with the valve plate/electrical plate? When it was failing the tranny clunked as it was put in forward or reverse, then worked OK. It finally went into 'limp' mode and went to the stealership and was fixed under warranty.
But if the lever is moving could it not be an engine or tranny mounting as there is a rod connecting the lever to the tranny?
That's just a slightly informed guess though.
The moving of the gear lever sounds like the mount to me. I had all 3 fail (2 motor and 1 tranny) and cause the shifter to move just as you explain. The tranny mount is a DIY, the other 2 are a pain.
Honestly I hope it's the tranny mount. I'm going to get under it today to check. It's under warranty so I'll see if I can get it covered. I'm still about due for a fluid/filter change so might as well knock that out while I'm at it.
Also to answer the question about a lever connecting, I haven't looked yet to see. On my Camaro it's a cable linkage that pulls a lever, so that's mechanical. On this it may be the same or fully electronic, or it could be a mix of both (mechanical to put it in P,R,N,D and electronic for which gear you want).

I just checked the linkage and transmission mount and everything seems fine. No missing/loose bolts, the bushing was perfect, etc. I did notice signs of a transmission leak, it looked like some red staining, it's not enough to have dripped on the floor and wasn't wet so this is a very slow leak.
If it's under warrantee, why not let the dealer just fix it? It very well can be your motor mounts still. They are near impossible to get a good look at. When they got mine out, they were actually seperated into 2-pieces... they said my motor was hitting the hood on hard acceleration.
Catch that tranny leak soon. If it's from the connector (known fault), the fluid will wick up the wiring harness and short the module.
Both of those should be covered under warrantee.

I have a appointment Monday, I was just curious if low tranny fluid would cause that issue. On my way back from Carmax (where my warranty is through) I noticed it's not doing it nearly as bad as it was and sometimes not as all unless I have it floored. I'm going to check the motor mounts just for the hell of it then keep it parked before I really break something.
i had very similar symptoms when i had a leak. At first i thought it was the torque limiter. but yeah. i would get on it and it would go into neutral. sometimes it would go back into gear, and sometimes i would have to pull over and place it on drive and neutral a few times and it would go back to normal. it was low tranny fluid

I cross posted in technical but yeah the fluid, filter, and even valve body has been replaced as of yesterday and the problem persist. Only two things left is checking the rear end and motor mounts.
