This so much depends on the person.
I can not say too much on the negative side. I saved my pennies and bought an older Corvette when I was 18.
('69 350/350 4spd).
I think it makes a huge difference if you pay for it yourself and something like this is not handed to you.

Alright, thanks everyone for their opinions. I have printed a bunch of your responses out and plan on giving them to my dad tomorrow (The good and the bad). Hopefully he makes the right decision; wish me luck.

This could be the differance between getting a car or not, which isn't a waste in the slighest.

Who could blame you for editing the posts to your advantage; good luck. I hope the old man goes for it.

You were the kid just can't read or comprehend.
Lets make this clear for Ebbs:
Instead of printing, you should get on the computer with your dad and show him this thread. Next he can read all 4 pages showing him ALL the posts. Your dad will see all the pros/cons posted instead of your choice selections. Using this method there is no chance of you editing the posts to your benefit. This method also allows you not to use paper. I hope this was clear and concise enough for you to comprehend.

What is happening here is "Reverse age discrimination". I happen to be the father of a 15 year old. I have had him out "training" in my SRT6 several times. He KNOWS the power of the vehicle. He also knows physics. If Mr. Ebbs is good with school, math, physics, is responsible, and gets the feel of the SRT6 "with training", he should be than able to handle it. Granted the insurance cost will be hard to swallow, because insurance companies legally do age-discrimination. But, as far as Dad is concerned, if he is properly trained with the car, exercises and knows the capabilities and drawbacks, doesn't get into any snap oversteer issues while hitting corners (too much speed entering into it), then he should be given a chance to drive his own SRT6, paid for with his own money. TRAINING, and TRUST, Dad..... Training and trust..... If he doesn't have both, it won't work out for either party. Let the kid learn.... he will make a few mistakes. So long as they aren't BIG mistakes that leave him maimed for life.... and he will probably take good care of the SRT6..... The biggest danger he might have after training is that he might get laid more often from females that are attracted to guys with fast cars..... That would be the NEXT phase of his training... of a different type though. Stick with SRT6 training first.

I believe they are leaning toward a used 350Z. Not my first choice, but hey, parts are cheaper and sport-car techs don't need to be trained on a hybrid-MBZ/Mopar vehicle. Not as much power or handling/braking, but they are plentiful to be had without much ado.

I would save my money for later but I have 11 cars. If I were 17 I would take what I could get.
