Default Motor Mounts

I am looking to buy some motor mounts as my drivers side mount is shot. Would you recommend replacing both or would I be fine just changing out the drivers side? Also I have been looking around and have seen a few different manufacturers, do you guys who have replaced theirs have any brand preference? I have seen Febi Bilstein for 83 a piece and Hamburg Technic for 64 a piece. I have read to avoid Deutsche Parts e-Bay store and they sell the hamburg technic made ones. Also do we share the same mounts as a C32 or SLK32? Since that would expand my brand options. Thanks guys!

Same as the SLK32, not sure about the C32. I did both driver side and passenger side. What a pain in the *** that was. I ended up having to use German torque specs for the top and bottom instead of following recommended settings. :/ Just wasn't any room to get a torque wrench up in there.

40 foot pounds at the top if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the input. With how common of an issue this is I figured I would hear more input regarding replacement products.

the mounts are liquid filled so they fail on a reqular basis. you can do poly filled with a kit and the old mounts or buy oem.

The cars eat motor mounts or at least the ones MB/Chrysler uses. As Steve says fill them with Poly and it is one & done.

check out this thread over at benzworld...
1999 230SLK Engine mounts and Automatic Transmission mount - Page 2 - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum
keep in mind your car is similar to a slk320 or slk32 with the V6, although the 2.3L SLK230 mounts are similar... I think.

I don't know where you read to aviod Deutsche Parts or the mtr mts that they sell. I ordered my motor mts from them a couple of months ago and haven't had any problems w/the mts or the store. The mts that they sold me seemed to be more robust and have performed just fine. It's not like it is a moving part or anything. It just has to hold together and do what motor mts do. Maybe some people know something I don't, but Deutsche Prts sent them quickly and they seem to be doing the job. What more can you ask?

These guys are CROOKS !!

Their FAKE oem chinese parts (labeled Hamburg technic) are pure crap

they drag their heals on returns until it is too late to file a grievance with Paypal (and too late to give them negative feedback, hence their good ebay rating).

do a google search on them .. "Deutsche Parts USA" (please)

or click on these prime examples ...
Deutsche Parts front end kit - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum
Avoid/Beware of eBay seller Deutsche Parts USA. - 986 Forum - for Porsche Boxster Owners and Others
.
and .... you'll also find their BBB rating is F Deutsche Parts USA Review - AUTO PARTS & SUPPLIES-NEW in New York , NY - BBB Business Review - BBB serving Metropolitan New York, Long Island, and the Mid-Hudson Region

the only thing they seem to be good at is making up FAKE positive reviews to offset the negatives Deutsche Parts USAReviews - YellowBot

do yourself a favor and Stay AWAY from these guys!

Look, all you say MAY be true. Every company has their problems. I don't know how you/anyone knows that they write fake posittive reviews. My parts had made in Germany on them and have performed with no problems. Even if they are made in China, and I have no proof that they were, they work. We buy Chinese stuff everyday. All I care is that they work. Like I said, it is not a moving part or critical engine component. I do not need German parts that are twice or more the price if I can buy the same part from another country. Are you the same Chris that has written almost word for word on othe stiesr negative reviews of this company? Did you have a bad experience and want payback? Just like they may be stuffing good reviews there could be one person who had a bad experience and is stuffing their reviews w/ negative ones. I have no way of knowing what is really going on. I have no dog in this hunt other than my experience with this company. It has been positive. You pays your money and you takes your chances. Maybe I will regret buying this part if they fail soon..... Or they could last another 200K miles. The stock German parts didn't make it to 80K miles. Just eyeballing them side by side with the stock part that came off the car, the new parts seemed to be better built. Time will tell.

I am neither looking for payback nor a battle with you. I was reimbursed 100%. by PAYPAL (after 4 months)

As you may have noticed, I did write a bad review on Yellow bot (and signed it with my full name as I have no reason not to). These guys have developed a very effective method of distributing JUNK and quashing bad reviews. THAT IS WHY I AM TELLING THE TALE.

IF you have read any of my posts (on this or any mercedes forum), you should have noticed that I am neither quick to bash anybody nor quick to comment on something that I don't understand.

DSKUL1, I am neither trying to pick on you or pick a fight with you. I am pointing out for EVERYBODY EXCEPT YOU that THEY should google this company before THEY waste THEIR time and money buying and installing ONE SINGLE ONE OF this companies CHEAP COPIES.

The fact that you believe the part is German because they misrepresent it as such is the reason they are still in business. Relative to your claim that it is not a moving part so it does not matter so much ... I DISAGREE (with your premise and conclusion).

My original comment began with a quote of your post ONLY because you eluded to VAGUE complaints that may or may not have merit. I responded TO THAT. If you want to beleive that I am all about getting even, then PLEASE continue to buy from them. I was speaking to everyone else, and to the extent that members here want to take me at my word (because I have a reputation of knowing what the "F" I am talking about) that is great. Those who don't know me, please, PLEASE do a google search on Deutsche Parts USA.

DSKUL1, I hope that you have good luck with your motor mounts. (seriously). When I bought mine, they looked only mildly sub-standard (and the tranny mount actually looked identical to the name brand one that I ended up getting). It is possible that Hamburg-Technic made good knock-offs of a part that mercedes had Bilstien make for them originally (the actual OEM). I had such a HORRIBLE experience with Deutsche Parts USA's COMPLETE lack of integrity, that I felt obligated to share my experience and ... then when checking them out on the other forums, I found that they continue to sell suspension components (and waterpumps, etc) that are inferior (and just don't last).

I would buy the Bilstein part. Buy a pair (you can save your still intact passenger side mount as a spare for the drivers side if that helps to justify replacing a working part : )

here is a link to a thread from last year on this where I posted a couple of pics of the tool I made (by cutting a wrench) that made the job a piece of cake.

I got tired of replacing the mount on the drivers side and ran a cable around the ehgine mount and frame and solved all my problems with the mount. No more broken motor mounts and the cable does not allow the top of the s/c to smack the underside of the hood. "A little cable goes along way"

Early in my racing, I drove in a stockcar class that required we run factory motor mounts, we all added a chain as a torque-strap to the driver's side of the motor.

This is a tried and true solution. best of both worlds, you get the refined dampening characteristics of the stock mount and then you have a cable to keep it from being pulled past its "yield point". Others here have done this too. it would be good to post some pictures of the cable type and routing you ended up with as this is a good mod for those who twist their motor to the limit

Can anyone tell me what type of cable they used to tie it with or will any cable do?

From the pictures I saw, they used vinyl covered braided steel cable with the 2 bolt U clamp thingies. The cable was wrapped around 2 or 3 times then cinched.

( Made my Alabama shade tree mechanic heart proud )

Mechanic told me my motor mounts are shot, too! I would love to see a DIY fix to this like others did!!!
Not the most tech savvy but definitely would like to see some hints to doing this cable fix!

Sent a PM to you with the specifics but the place you buy the coated cable will have the clamps to hold them tight .....basically a ushapped bolt with a bottom flat piece to run the ubolt through and put a bolt on each end and tighten them up. I used 3 to be sure of no movement of the cable and in 4 years have never broken another motor mount.
