Default Oil Sensor Light & Other Issues...Function, Replacement etc...

here's a link to a thread I'm adding to over the next few weeks around that old chestnut - the Oil Sensor in the M112 engine sump.
Oil level light intermittently comes on, bad sensor? - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum

I'm replacing mine shortly when I drop the sump. Repalcement was $109+post from autohausAZ - mgiht be able to get it cheaper elsewhere. the Autohause part was an original MB part - A 0061532728

Anyway - see link for a pdf on function of the unit (temp, level and conductivity) and Work Instruction sets from WIS on replacement. I will post additional pics in that link when I do the change out.

A neat little addition on how they work
Signal to Noise: Bosch Oil Sensor

there's some other stuff here - mainly for the M113 - but some parts and technologies between the M112 and M113 are similar.....

That's a great find, the DIY site on it has a good explanation on how the NAG 1 auto transmission works.

It explains a lot of other components
as well.

PS
Billy22Bob, the Student Crossfire book has been here for a few years, that's possibly where the MB guy got it in the first place.

The capacitace of the oil which the sensor measures for the quality check brings up a question. Do different viscosities, brands, or syn-mixes have different capacitance? Is the sensor calibrated for Mobil! 0W40 only?

most likely....would depend on how much variation there is in these factors between brands.
would probably have to setup a dummy arrangement "Waldig style" and run through a few....;>)
My OCD doesnt extend that far.....;>)
