Unhappy Forum under attack, from within!

One of the reasons I joined this forum was because of the technical expertise and experience of the members. The SLK forum was not near as "mod" oriented, however, they are, for the most part, civil.

Lately, some threads in this forum have devolved into a snarky, snide pissing contest. We are, I presume, all adults here. Why do some members feel it necessary to chime in on topics of which they have no relevant information. No one should feel they have anything to prove to anyone else. Sometimes it sounds like a school playground at recess."Did too!", "Did Not!", "Nuh-uh", "Uh-huh!"

We all know that the internet allows everyone, including idiots, to be experts on any topic. I can claim to be CEO of a Fortune 500 company, a space shuttle pilot, or Idi Amin.

Though I am new to this forum, I am not new to the internet, forums and trolls. Let's not scare away new members with our inane bickering. Let's all be mature enough to just "let it go" and ignore the rantings of lunatic minds.

When you choose to get embroiled in these cat fights, you are no better than the person with whom you are fighting.

Just my .02, oh and by the way, I am Elvis' illegitimate alien spawn.

With you on this! I am new to the forum and I knew there was going to be arguing here and there but if there is any way we can all just work on this together it would be great to make sure this forum lives on. I have already gotten knowledge from everyones experiences and just reading old threads, the last thing I wanna see is this forum die!

Here Here, the surest way to deal with troublesome people on a forum is to not give them an audience. They will calm down or go away, cause playing alone is less entertaining.

We should all ENJOY. Wdy

Most questions have been asked before and the answers are to be found easily using the search function. You obviously looked around and found some useful information. Others come on here and expect an answer to the most basic questions, they could have got the answer much quicker if they had used the search feature.

Others come on here and are immediate 'experts' in the Xfire, not aware of what has been done before and what did not work. I'm no expert but I can remember if something has been posted in the last six years and I can refer someone to it pretty quickly. Some of these new 'experts' can cause serious and expensive problems for someone who takes the info they give as gospel. What worked on that Honda may not work on the Xfire.

I don't have a big problem with spelling, grammar or punctuation errors as I make plenty of them unless it makes the sentence difficult to understand. We have to consider the users input device and that US English may not be the writer's primary language.

Why do so many not display their location? It can be very relevant.

attach this......lol... This forum is very civil compared to most car forums I have been on.... We are talking cars right? It's when we get off the car subject it seems to go south...stay on cars and everyone gets along...get personal, and people will defend themselves....

After being on the Vette forum for a couple years, I'ld have to agree. This is as tame as it gets.

Geez OP needs to get the sand out of his vagina.. This is nothing compared to a lot of other forums. Speaking of vaginas, this forum is a massive sausage fest, I miss having chicks but then again most chicks don't buy a midlife crisis car.

That's a pretty crude way of putting it, don't you think? It merely supports the OP's view.

What you do with sausages is your own thing, don't ask, don't tell.
Once again you have failed to post anything useful in even the most remote way in any of your posts. I am only surprised that you didn't mention Honda in this post, must be coming up soon.

Back on topic, I tend to agree that while there is bickering, it is quite calm compared to tons of other forums out there. Thesamba.com comes to mind as one of the bigger VW forums that is full of people who get all kinds of butthurt if you type while sneezing and accidentally put an extra space or miss a period, comma, or some other punctual indicator.

BoilerUpXFire

and I had our moment.. had him on ignore.. but once past it, well he does have useful comments, so that's no longer the case.

It works good.. I only have to see "his" comments now when they are quoted as above. Just don't see this one making it off the ignore list...

I read this forum daily, and depend on it to solve past and future problems. I read most of the problems and solutions that have plagued others. Thanks to all who contribute. When I see flames I try to keep a low profile. No point to throwing fuel on the fire. I sure hope the forum doesn't go away. I've had my SRT6 for 2+ years and just love it. And depend on you guys for knowledge.

The closest families often have the nastiest fights. That's actually why the threads that derail seem like an utter catastrophe -- it's a deviation from our normal state of singing Kumbaya. All it takes is one newbie attacking one of our long-time family members, and it can get vicious as we don't take disrespect lightly. If you're a person that is disturbed by that concept, it's probably why you don't have many friends.

As someone else pointed out, this is even further amplified when there are so few "new topics" to discuss. If all you do is sit around and talk about the same old things with your wife, you'll eventually get snarky with each other and become critical of every misstep. And that never ends well. Today's dust on the TV becomes tomorrow's war. I've seen far too many battles erupt from positions of ignorance being defended to the bitter death, when the point of discussion can be laid to rest with a single website link containing indisputable facts. New members can't expect to come on here and simply beat their chest and be right, knowing nothing about the platform and posting only based on emotion. They will get roasted on it every time.

That being said, this forum is certainly tame compared to others. Trolls will be trolls, and odds are, they're a$$holes in real life. You can't let them tear you down. Just shake your head, and keep scrolling.

Cheers,

You're right rfourt. I've let myself get sucked into a couple of these arguments, probably for the worse. Generally I TRY to contribute useful information and share what I've learned with the rest of the group.

Posts like the one below can really get your blood going though. The poster insulted you, this forum, and the Crossfire, all in one shot!

Do you think it's true that if we don't feed the trolls they'll go away?
