Default Royal Purple

Hi Everyone,

I just got my oil change 2 days with Royal Purple 0 40/wick filter @ 35,000 miles. I have been using this brand since the beginning approximately every 7,000 miles.

Question:

After about 10 miles of driving for two days, i was curious since I used a new service, I checked the oil and it was brown. Shouldn't it be purple after just a few miles?

Peace,
Gino

I thought royal purple was just a name brand but never knew what color it was since its just too damn expensive for me. I would not use it unless it was free.

I use Royal Purple, and yes it should not be brown in just a few miles unless the old oil was not drained very well. This is an easy DIY thing, one way to ensure that it's done properly.

I've had my XF for almost 7 years. It recently changed the rear diff-lub. I researched it and thought that Royal Purple 75w90 was the best, so I used it. The next time I needed to change my oil, I decided to change from Mobile One 0w40 (which I've used exclusively from the start) to Royal Purple 0w40. After the change, the car just "purred". I noticed a little difference (improvement). I've been paying about $8.50 qt for Mobile One from Walmart and other places. I purchased Royal Purple from Amazon for $101.20 for 12 qts (free shipping). That's $8.43 qt. It seams like very good oil to me. . .Readers may want to try it on the next oil change.

I agree. I just changed to Royal Purple and had the same effect. The motor just purred. A slight but noticeable difference in power.

I thought 5 quarts at Walmart was about $25 on sale. So I'd say you have been not looking for sales.
Mobil 1 0W-40 is just fine with me.

Anyone who can see an improvement in power when they use it should send their findings to Mobil as I am sure the department than handles the racing would be very interested in finding out the reason why all of the teams are switching to Royal purple when racing.

Just today I bought two 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1, 5W30 for the wifes Tribeca. It was $25.00 a jug, not on sale. BTW,...no E in Mobil.

We use to run royal purple in all our race cars, they changed their formula about a year ago. You can still get their original formula but it cost more. We have since switched to amsoil. Love the royal purple but like the amsoil too. Amsoil has a 25000 mile oil that I run I my personal cars. Put 25000 on my gto which is driven pretty hard and sent it out for analysis after 24000 and the numbers were almost as good as new oil... Pretty amazing

Buy this Mann one or equivalent and you will not go wrong.
Make sure it is made from white fiber glass not paper as the cheap ones from China fall apart..
You can buy them on eBay for around $10 or less sometimes in quantities. Do not go to the dealer.
I think Wix and others repackage them in their own box so open the box and look for the correct one.

This is the thread where people think they could do a blindfold test and say if their car is using Royal Purple oil or Mobil 10W40. LOL

Are these people that feel a performance gain from an oil change for real???

I'm sure that Royal Purple is a fine oil but I'm also pretty sure that there would be little difference between it and other synthetic oils of the same viscosity as far as performance or fuel mileage. The purple dye is just a marketing tool.

LOL.
Yes. Apparently there is only one dyno that will show a performance gain from an oil change..............the "butt dyno".

Add a Sprint Booster to the Royal Purple and you're probably good for an additional 30+ hp on the Butt Dyno!
