DC says that if you don't run Mobil 1 your warranty will be voided...... I'm running Mobil 1

But I've been sold on Mobil 1 since I started running it in my Explorer 2 years ago. I was getting 18 mpg doing mostly interstate driving. First I changed to K&N air filter and my mileage went to just under 21 mpg. Then a changed to Mobil 1 from patrolium Quaker State and my mileage went to 23 mpg. That sold me.

I'm gonna have to check that, because that's specifically illegal. Yes, I recall a sticker under the hood saying Mobil 1 recommended, but DC in no way can specify a brand of oil that must be used to maintain the warranty, unless they provide that brand at no charge to the purchaser for the life of the warranty.

I know my dealer uses Texaco Havolin synthetic oil and when I brought mine in for it's first oil change they had to go out and get Mobil 1. They are the ones that told me they couldn't use anything but Mobil 1. Makes no difference to me as long as it's a good synthetic.

I've been a big Amsoil believer having used it in everything including my lawn mower, my Waverunner, Goldwing, Dodge Dakota and Chrysler 300M. They just came out with a European Blend 5-40. If interested, you can go to the Amsoil website and become a preferred customer. I think the oil will run about $5 a quart. Also, you can compare the analysis between Amsoil and Mobil 1. If you don't already know, Amsoil was the first to develop synthetic oils back in the early 1970s.

Shameless rip:

When service is required, DaimlerChrysler Corporation recommends that only Mopar brand parts, lubricants and chemicals be used. Mopar provides the best engineered products for servicing DaimlerChrysler Corporation vehicles.

Only lubricants bearing designations defined by the following organization should be used.

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)
American Petroleum Institute (API)
National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI)
API SERVICE GRADE CERTIFIED
Use synthetic engine oils, approved to MB 229.3 or MB 229.5, such as Mopar part number 05127394AA. Synthetic SAE 0W-40 or SAE 5W-40 engine oils approved to API SL and/or GF-3 may be substituted. The FFS may not alert for an oil change at the proper interval if an unapproved product is used; engine damage and reduced engine life may result.
