Default Just Signed... What did i get myself into!?

Some background, I live in Irvine, CA, and i saw an Add for a 2005 SRT-6, Charcoal Gray, 47,000 miles for $13,500 for sell in Carlbad, Ca

about 45 minute drive, i test drive it, it seems okay, so i bought it!

yipee, right....

wrong,

not 15 minutes after i buy it, heading back to Irvine on hwy 5, at 10:00pm, i notice something fishy about the acceleration....

it only works half the time!?

so i do some research on here, to find out its possible a bad super charger, or a bad I/C pump, SC temp sensor!?

I bought warrant for the car like any responsible adult, but seriously, should i just return it and demand my money back?

oh, and hello...

I've been a lurker for a long time and finally bought one... but its got something wrong with it already...

Greetings, and welcome to the forum.
I'm no SRT6 owner, but it sounds like the pump to me. (Not an expensive fix). But if you bought the warranty, I'd tell them to fix it.
I'm sure somebody who knows much more than I do about it, will chime in soon.
Good Luck

Sounds like you got a good deal because someone else thought they had a bigger problem. The intercooler pump is a common failure. No big worries there. Even if you didn't have the warrantee, it's an easy DIY for around $130.

Almost certainly the pump, or intake temp sensor, there's plenty of info one here if you search.

The pump failure just helped you buy the car at a very good price. I'm sure that's why they sold it. Have the IC pump replaced. And hang on.

+1

I bought both my Crossfires with bad pumps, and I also believe that's why I got such great deals on them.

Read more of this forum, OP (original poster). You still may have gotten a good deal. Check all the "known issues". IC pump How-to-fix with pictures is on here already. If not, a shop should be able to do it for very little $. Bring your own pump though. Johnson / Bosch.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the car. Ditto to what everyone else said. Do a little research, but it does sound like your having an issue with your IC pump. Get it fixed and enjoy the ride.

So, I'm about 99% certain I'm going to keep the car, but....

Here's and update:
The ford dealership mechanic was able to reproduce the issue, but couldn't diagnose the root cause, so the dealer sent it over to the Chrysler they have a maintenance agreement with.

I specifically mentioned the Inter Cooler Pump to the Ford mechanic, but he couldn't verify if that was the issue or not.

So, now i have to wait on another mechanic to look at it from a different dealership.

Hopefully Chrysler will figure it out.

So for now, I'm driving a Toyota Yaris rental... at least it has good gas mileage...

The trick is to try and find a mechanic who is SRT6 certified. AND, the shop may need to go through a laundry list of OTHER things to check before they FINALLY listen to you and check/replace the pump. Unfortunately, patience maybe needed but the wait will be worth it. Hang in there and welcome to the club

I would direct them to this web site. I knew a dealer that had a SRT6 for months. Said they couldn't figure it out. I sent the mechanic to this site. Car was fixed and out the door in days. It was the IC pump..

I'd be willing to bet the Chrysler mechanic won't know anymore about this car and the problem than the Ford guy. Here's what you need to do:

Since they are all clueless about this and won't pay attention to what you are telling them, talk them into replacing the entire supercharger, but make sure you let THEM come up with that diagnosis. It won't fix it, but it might make them feel better knowing that they knew more than you, and you will have a fresh S/C. Drive it for about 30 minutes and show them it is still acting up and then help THEM to decide it's the I/C pump. You'll be good to go for a long time !

sorry to say, but your first mistake, was taking it into a dealer. You already read on here that is the IC pump.
You see the dealer is going to take the supercharger apart, and then there's envelope over about 100 other things that they can take apart and destroy for you. If your car is the same when you get it back you will be one out of 1764. That everything turned out okay,, being that the Chrysler dealer has it, go to that Chrysler dealer asked to talk to the mechanic is working on your car. Tell him it's the IC pump and if you replace that you would appreciate it, if it's not the IC pump tell him you'll buy him lunch for a week. When he finishes the IC pump take your car be happy,,Because 99.9% of the time that is the problem and it will be fixed. jim

Definitely try to talk to the tech. Tell him why you think it is an ic pump.
It is easy to understand why someone without knowledge on these cars would miss it.
Don't talk down to him just explain why you think it's the ic pump.

Congrats! You got a great deal. There's lots of knowledge behind those here telling you it's the IC pump. Mine failed too. Listen to us. Again, congrats!

Yep, mine was bad when I drove it off the lot too. I bought a new one for $145 off Amazon and will replace it shortly. Dealers are idiots for what it's worth and will only end up screwing things up worse. I had a clicking noise, every shop said "we'll have to take it apart and probably end up replacing the front end of the SC. Will cost about $2200." Posted two videos on here and now I'm installing a new SC Pulley for $500 saving myself a ton of money.

Let these guys diagnose you lol and then do what they say.

Update:

So the Chrysler Mechanic (certified for SRT-6) didn't figure it out either.
However he did find that the oil was 2 quarts low.

So, thank God he found the low oil issue, that could have turned into something much worse.

This just makes me a little more upset with the dealership that sold the Crossfire to me.

For now, Tomorrow I'm going out of town for two weeks, but when I get back I'll change out that IC pump everyone is talking about. Look simple enough,

Anyways;
Thanks for the support everyone. I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for all of these post I would have returned the car, never knowing it could be something very simple.

Keep up the good work!

I went back and forth with the chrysler dealership when my IC pump was going out. They were clueless. I've found that they are clueless on most things with this car. Pretty sad actually. If you have the option in the future, take it to a Mercedes dealership.
