Need some differential assistance, please.
I seem to remember that others have pulled the differential with out major dissassembly.
I dont wanna pull the tires, brakes, support struts, axles, just to do the differential, again.
Can the more gifted please advise me, cause the differential is failed. Something inside has come loose and is hitting - preventing rotation of the driveshaft without seriousHEAVY thumping.
Driveshaft is clean and true, rubber donuts are sound, axles are correct and wheels can be rotated without issue. Driveshaft will not rotate by hand, something is gone wrong inside.
Need to get the rear out again. Your suggestions will be most appreciated, I dont want to do any more work than needed
Ill let you all know what happened to the waveteck. Woody

I may be misunderstanding what you are asking for. I was able to pull the rear without it impacting alignment and suspension parts. I pulled the axles out of the rear end but did not remove them from the car or the brakes. I did have to pull the muffler, etc. I will add some pictures to show you. Curious to see what you find out.
Thanks for the photos, I am missing the process of pulling the axles with the brakes on. Which way do you remove the axle, push them out toward the outer sides of the car?
What is the process of pulling them??
THanks for the response. Ill work this week on the rear, have lots to do on the new house and garage construction. Not a good time for a major failure, but Iam glad it happened close to the house so I could get the trailer to bring it back.
Next I will have to see if it is the wavetec or the ring gear. Wish I could just pull the rear cover off for a check and look see. Woody

I removed the wheels, disconnected the upper tie rods, and removed the springs. After that remove the bolts holding the differential in place and support it with a jack. I used the weight of the rotors and calipers to pull the axles from the differential and also when popping them back in place. After the axles are mostly out, lower the differential gradually (with a jack) while pulling them the rest of the way out. That's how Steve and I did it in December, and we had it out within an hour.
Alright, I pulled the muffler, then disconnected the driveshaft, then disconnected the diff, and then lowered the diff a little bit, popped one axle loose but do not remove it then lowered the diff a little more and popped the other axle loose, once this is done you can move the diff side to side to pull the axles free. Once they are free you can lower the diff out. It took two of us to do this, not saying one person can't do it just easier with two.
