Question SRT6 deceleration noise

I have a 2005 SRT6 w/o turbo that I bought in 2008. 42,000 miles. no leaks. no obvious mechanical problems. It has just started making an unusual "noise" upon decelerating from low speeds like 30 or 40 mph. It is not a whine and not a grinding noise. Before I bring it to the dealer ($$$$) I'd like some idea what I might be dealing with.

Stupidly I went to check the trans fluid only to find out I forgot there is no way to do that! Checked the serpentine belt. OK. No crazy noise when idle. Oil OK. No squirrels or mice.

I suspect a bearing. There is a smell of "hot brake pad" upon turning off the ignition but that must be a separate problem with the front disk brakes. Need to check the calipers on that.

Any other thoughts? Can I post a mp3 of the sound? All I found on the forum were acceleration noise symptoms.

thanks...

First...and not to be a jerk... but what the heck do you mean by this "2005 SRT6 w/o turbo"??? You're on the right track wanting to upload a file for the noise, no one will likely be able to help based on the info you have provided thus far.

I personally like to take a video with my phone or tablet, upload it to youtube, and post a link here to the video. You'll obviously need a device capable of recording video and a youtube account for that!

Hi!

No you aren't a jerk but it looks like I am, at the least, "misinformed". I bought the Crossfire in 2008 from a dealer. At the time I used some retirement pay to buy it and was just happy to drive it and have the dealer service it. Well, now its 2014 and I am well into retirement and have more time to play with my toys and to do things myself...in other words a lot of catch up learning. You are right, this can't be an SRT-6 cause the only turbo on it would be imaginary!

Attached is a pic of the engine cover and the exposed engine (if I did it correctly). The reason I thought I had an SRT-6 was that the manuals included with the car said so...yes I know, dumb. And yes I should have known since I have had turbo cars in the past and never experienced the kick you get with them vs a car without a turbo. But I didn't care since it was still fast and fun to drive (ignorance is bliss). Oh well, off to the blackboard to write "let the buyer beware" a hundred times!

Here is some decoded VIN info from Home : Free VIN Decoder - Vehicle Identification Number Check and I don't see anything there that IDs my car as an SRT-6. Ill take a pic of the whole care tomorrow after it is washed and post it. Thank goodness I didn't make a fool of myself and post it on the SRT-6 site!

You do not have an SRT6, you have a Limited trim model without the supercharger as you surmised "without turbo".

Thanks for your comments. Guess I will repost on the regular Crossfire forum but not sure how to kill this post.

You should still post up a video or sound clip of the noise either way. I I would try to provide feedback even though you're in the wrong forum but there is no way for anyone to help. If you can't do a video tell us where the noise is coming from.
