Default Who Graffiti my car?

Hey gang been meaning to ask this for a while, every time I work on my 2005 SRT I find yet one more part that has a number written on it with a paint marker. Different colors and mostly a single digit number, such as a orange number seven on the driver's plastic bracket that holds the front brake line. The front springs have tree stripes of 3 different colors on them. Any ideas?

Thanks

in the UK it is what breakers do when parting out a vehicle so that they can identify what they have supplied

So you're suggesting that the op's car was in a wreck, and has salvaged parts? I'm thinking these are OEM markings that he is talking about. Perhaps for the factory line workers to distinguish SRT6 from NA ? Or?

Sorry if you thought I was implying that the op's car had been in a wreck. I was just stating a common practice in the UK that breakers use to avoid scammers from return swapped out parts.

Some manufacturers stamp marks on their parts as they pass through inspections and processes. Some parts that are molded often have the year, month, day and sometimes the shift or hour the part was made molded into them. Some people put marks on the part by hand signifying that their part of the manufacturing process has been done and these marks would only have meaning to that person and maybe not even to their company.

Could be any of the following:
  • Supplier QA markings before the parts were sent to Karmann-Wilhelm
  • Identification markings used by said suppliers for sorting purposes
  • Methodical numbering based on order of parts removed from vehicle (if PO did a repair)
As long as the parts are working, I wouldn't sweat them

These kind of marks are common on assembly lines where there is a need to differentiate parts. IE: different models of a vehicle assembled on the same line, where there is a distinction between left and right parts or where there are options installed.

Hell I am just amazed while crawling around under my old '99 Tahoe looking for a water leak how the markings are still on several of the parts after all the brutal years on the road....at least they use good markers.
