I have a separated coolant system and I would like to add a separate tank for the IC. What is the nicest looking tank? Any ideas for me?
I guess I just have to 'T' this into a hose to the pump , yes?

 

I am also looking for a good separate ic tank as well. any info would be great

Er .... there is a picture missing.

 

I saw a power steeing from (I think it was a BMW ) mounted next the radiator this is one that the pump is not in the reservior,, I think it was 1 1/2 qt. with the screw type cap on top you have a place to fill and check it. what do you think of that? jim

I used the BMW power steering reservoir as an intercooler tank back when I had a leaking intercooler. The boost would pump water into the circuit and I'd spray water out the top. I have no tank at this time.

What's good about that is the easy diagnosis it provides us now that we know what to look for. I'm always checking the vented cap area after hot laps to see if my time has come for the failure. Saving up for Rudys CAC.

 

I won't edit the my prior post but what I meant and I think you understood is that under high sustained boost, air enters the intercooler circuit. Under low boost water enters the manifolds. At least on a separated circuit with a non pressurized reservoir.

I've been down a long and winding road. I went back to the stock heat exchanger and reservoir for racing points reasons. The result was spraying the engine compartment and knowing I had to change the leaking intercooler. Done. Also the stock heat exchanger IS too small for "all the bolt ons". I have an E55AMG heat exchanger at this time for engine coolant temperature reasons. The super sized H/E elevates the EGT's about 3º. Not much but when your too hot. Well, out it came. What I like about the interconnected system is it's pressurized. It doesn't seem to affect my I/C coolant temperatures. With the separated circuits and connected circuits the maximum IAT temperatures on the road course are the same as far as I can tell. Since they reach 180º and max timing is pulled at around 140º, or so I've read, no way I can keep them that low. So no gain for me with a super sized cooler. I'm not done messing around with it though.

I hate to think about plumbing in a separate tank, but I think after running the 1/2 mile event and seeing Jake's ice tank in the trunk and how well it worked it is tempting. Dave why are you wanting a separate tank? More volume?
