E85
Anyone aware if it has been done? It has really been crossing my mind to make the switch.....that and run stacked pulleys. Do the name brand tuners have that much control? Can they tune an 850cc injector to run right on these motors?
since the car isn't setup for flex fuel you will need 2 files. one for gas and one for e85. e85 absorbs water so you need to run gas every now and then to dispel the water.
tuning for 850 isn't that hard any competent tuner should be able to scale the injectors. the biggest issue your going to have is the quality of the fuel. if you tune for e85 and your local station has what they SAY is e85 but in reality is e79 your going to be running too much timing and risk damage under high boost. the only way to correct this is tune low and hope it works but your leaving power on the table. also if your running a e85 file and find yourself in an area that doesn't have e85 you will need to run the tank virtually empty swap file and fill with gas. the time needed for the edu to adapt to the new file is a danger zone. you will see a bunch of detonation until the file adapts.
if you want to go all in ( which everyone wants to do but no one wants to spend the cash) look at a proefi flex fuel system. about 5000$ for the hardware another 2000$ for the tuner and you can run e85 93 105 all without blinking adapts on the fly

WHY?
Get a flex fuel car for the cash you'd spend and keep the Crossfire the way it is or sell it.
Slap yourself beside the head and think again.
THATS WHY!!
I have been told the same thing as Steve said from guys running E85 at the drag strip. They love it. Specifically a 10 second GTR and a 10 second Supra. E85 is great for boosted small-displacement motors because of the high octane rating and high specific heat. You can run high boost, keep your timing advance, and get significant additional charge air cooling. The downside of running E85 is that you have to run a LOT OF IT. Think whole new fuel system, dual pumps, monster injectors, etc. The other downsides are decreased range per tank and availability. E85 is not widely available in all markets (here). I think it would be a great fuel for a stacked setup.
looks like kroger is your best bet matt. find these places cause ill need the corn and so will craig in june!

the main reason WHY is because e85 has the equivalent octane rating of race fuel yet instead of paying 10.00$ per gal for race gas you pay 2.99 for e85. it runs much much cooler than gas so you can run huge timing advance making bigger power than any pump gas without the fear of deadly detonation. while you use 1/3 more fuel than gas for racing its the best way to make safe power .
THATS WHY!!

Good info guys. Part of the deal is this is strictly a play toy for me so running around on corn is no big deal. The local station by my house is spot on at 85% every test that has been performed on it so that is promising. ProEFI, yea not for this motor. If I were to spend that I would be doing an LSX with a snail, lol.

its a simple hardware issue now. an8 lines from front to rear, run a single 625 lph or bigger fuel pump, pre and post filters, and a fpr with an6 return lines to the tank. i would have a set of new rails made from billet and split the system instead of the u shape rail you have now. dyno dynamics have nice injectors and you can get a set of 1000 cc injectors for about 700$

Im aware of the haves too's on the setup...now its just a matter of ordering up all the junk and talking to the fab guy about rails and such. Im still torn between this corn deal or getting a big boy nitrous kit. Decisions...
My memory keeps going back to when I first bought the roadster and ran against bikecop's car, which Frank now owns. I didn't see much from his set up. We ran within a few 10ths of each other and I didn't have the tune in that car perfected yet. As much as I would love to run E85, I just don't see the expense. Nitrous set up is cheaper. Meth set up is cheaper, and I haven't done either of those either. Again because of the tuning issues. I like to drive them without hickups once in awhile. I don't just go out and race everyday. They aren't track cars, but I want the best performance up to being track cars without the risks. So, its up to each of you as to what you want your car to do and the mods you think you can get by with. But hear this from an ole' guy who has owned track cars. They do more sitting than driving. Think about it. My ole' Camaro was driven a quarter of a mile at a time. Maybe 5 passes a weekend if you were doing well. 11/4 miles a week for 16 weeks. 20 miles. Now if you bought your car to drive 20 miles a year...then experiment away. But, I bought mine to drive at least 4k a yr and I still want them to go fast, but reliable. Happy modding...
