Needswings DCAI
I am curious if anyone can explain away my jaw hitting the ground after seeing a $500-$800 price for the Needswings DCAIs? Though I'm still learning about my SRT6, I've got some very, very knowledgeable mod/gearhead friends that say I'd be absolutely crazy to pay more than $250-$300, a price for which I could have a fab shop here in town fabricate me CUSTOM DCAIs (w/powdercoat of choice). Any insight as to the where NW puts the money into these? Are NW really that much more incredible, beyond their name badge? Thanks. This is my next move, so I want to be educated and not just spending money because "that's what's available on the market".
I have purchased several CAI systems from NW for my various Crossfires over the years. They fit perfectly. They are also teflon coated to help with air resistance. I also opted for the thermal coating as well. This helps with intake temperatures. NW has supported the Crossfire community very well over the years.

Oregon Jaybird, I sometimes run a cold air system, albeit not a Needswings duel system, and I sometimes I run a piece of green foam right behind the supercharger. Foam in winter, CAI in summer. If I had to pick one it would be the foam even though I don't get the dense air advantage. The foam seems faster. While that may be psychological because of the cool supercharger whine it produces, I really like it better and there is no chance of hydrolock when going through flooded intersections. Tighed 1 made his own DIY intake. Lets see if this link works.

Some people want only the BEST and don't mind paying for it. Others think they can do just as well by running all over town buying this and that to fab up a DIY intake system . . . You choose whichever way you want to go.

About 80% done with the engine on my "rescue roadster". Just installed the Needswings DCAI today . . .

P.S. you have to attend to it frequently (clean the foam or replace the hepa filter) because there is less surface than the K&N it loads up pretty quick.
In all actuality it is the ONLY... no competitor, means no choice.
Needswings = R&D, bench flow testing for proven results, second to none customer service, built for custom fit and stands behind his line of products. If you own an SRT 6 my advise is to make Rob (the owner) one of your best friends.

CLARIFICATION:
Thanks everyone, and let me state for the record that I've purchased several items from NeedsWings and have received ONLY good experiences and top notch equipment. I feel as a consumer that after having listened to educated people (one being a shop owner) about the matter I should educate myself and challenge the question of cost vs. quality with their DCAIs vs. local tuning fab shops. I've heard so much great stuff about NeedsWings DCAIs that I wanted to know what, exactly, set them apart from the competition. I'm a tough, but very loyal customer, and DCAI or no DCAI, I intend on continuing to use NeedsWings for my SRT6 hardware.

There is not much choice but in my opinion, they are worth it. It took some effort to mock up the first one, (thanks Woody) and the silicon Y fitting is made for them and are low volume, so I'm sure there is some $s in them. They also include the altered PS cooler tube and as noted above, quality and fit are excellent.

Not a thing wrong with asking. Nothing wrong with debating the issue either. I have a dual on both my cars and I think they make a difference per my 1/4 miles times. I had the single CAI in the beginning. I traded it back in for a dual. When I purchased the 2nd car, I went right to the dual. A single does just fine, but I swear from the beginning, having just driven from Indy to Detroit, Rob installed the dual later that night, and I did a few interstate runs. Low end there was a difference. Can you duplicate his work. I think you can get close with the right parts. If you pay yourself nothing for the research, chasing down the parts, and the fab work. You can save a few bucks. Look at Max's (Cichon). His is beautiful. I would never run foam. That would be like the foam we used to use when I raced motorcycles. After one heat, it was filthy. Switched out run another heat. Can you imagine the draw on a piece of foam from a S/C? No thanks. And no, I won't debate that. It's a $12K hand built motor. Why do that? BTW. I have driven thru down pours at speed and these filters work just fine. No moisture is let in to cause hydro lock. This was debated long ago when Rob first started building the single.

I was concerned, so when I got home, I had a look at the air cleaner - dry as a bone.
yes, but not loud by no means. I like when you walk around in front of the car while it is idling....It just sound like it is sucking in air.... The duel was tested by Rob and Woody for long while before it was released. Rob was selling the singles with no problems. He wouldn't have offered it if it didn't make a difference.
I'm not going to argue with the experts. I run my CAI in the rain and I was in on the hydro lock discussion that's why I said flooded intersection rather than rain. Nor am I comparing a NW duel system with the Code 3 foam job. However, if cost is an issue.. I would like to defend the green foam though. I have no desire to blow up my 15k engine either. I've run a lot of K&N filters in my day. Hold them up to the light, then hold some green foam up to the light. There are bigger holes in the K&N. Since I service my foam frequently I can see that no dirt is getting through to the other side. I ran green foam on my Norton and got the same results. The key is cleaning it often.
It's your cars, do as you wish...I won't. Racing full time is one thing, but mine are driven to shows all over the Midwest and I want a good filtration system that still gives me the performance. We proved long ago the old velocity stacks, open filters, were actually robbing us of power rather than letting in more air to produce more HP. A high performance filter will accomplish the same goals and still provide protection from the elements. I ran a lot of open carbs in my day thinking I was making HP, and sucking in who knows what into to those motors. I got old and wiser. Well I got old and computers and dynos made me wiser....
