alternator failure
I'm not sure what others have done to make the the 8 rib not to stick out like it does ..it will tear up the belt..i did a lot of reading and no says what they do to make it fit ...i try-ed changing covers and that will not work they don't line up at all...i have try-ed all ways of moving it around with no luck it only goes in one way.... if someone knows how to make a 8 rib fit on a 6 rib alternator and have it line up ..please let me know... thank you
Been there, done that. Forget OEM, forget eBay. Take your alternator to a trusted local alternator rebuild shop and you will be much happier. Just be sure they clock it correctly when they reassemble it. Best to mark it before disassembly to avoid confusion.
I do not know anything about it at all.
I'm sorry but with no description and or pics nobody will be able to help unless they have first hand knowledge.
The Moral is get a Valeo in the first place, can you return it? they said it will fit and it does not.

Search on E-Bay for "valeo alternator Crossfire SRT6".. There are several listings there . . .

i talked to a re builder and he says buy the VALEO with the 8 rib already to install... changing out a 6 rib to a 8 rib is very risky for the belt......it may sometimes look like its lined up but it can rub on the side of the belt maybe very little but after time and wear good by belt and all kinds of bad things can happen .....i took my srt to a shop that works on MB's ...
shop just called the guy says ordered me a VALEO with a 8 rib already to in stall $319.00 and $95.00 labor....i told him what i had done and he says you most likely will not find this kind of specially 8 rib on ebay and most re builders don't even have them not a big demand item ...he uses a re builder back east and my alternator will be here monday...... i called the ebay re builder who does not have a 8 rib in stock and hes sending me a RA number so i can send the 6 rib back witch by the way will line right up and fit a limited crossfire just not the SRT6 model 8 rib.....
I'm sorry but I'm not sure . . . suggest asking the seller . . . Looking at the compatibility chart in that particular E-Bay listing I now see it's telling me that it will NOT fit on an SRT6 . . . I've never had to change out an alternator on a Crossfire so I'm just not experienced in that area . . . I'm going back to modify my earlier post as I don't want to mislead anyone . . . Sorry . . .

A further search found this - https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...lternator.html
i have been looking it is not easy trying to find a alternator with 8 ribs..but they are out there..rebuilt seems a good way to go.......on ebay im mostley seeing valeo but with 6 ribs ...sure you can change out the pulley but you can see with the eye that its not lined up right..(you don't even need some kind of measurer tool)....it may be fine and not do in your belt but than again it does rub very slightly and could do in you belt...so i personally am not going to take that chance... sorry i like things the right way and not out of lineament and thats just me....thank you all for your input and help !!
on Wednesday the rebuilt alternator comes in just what i needed a VALEO with the 8 ribs .... unpack it gettin ready to in stall and the damm thing will NOT SPIN at all so now have to ship back and get another one...thats right i have bought 2 so far and had to send both back.. this is one of the down falls of buying on line and buying a rebuilt alternator, I'm thinking i should have had mine rebuilt i would have been done by now.......
Sorry to hear this
. The good news is that the rest of us now know to just get our stock unit rebuilt if we don't want to take the gamble. Good luck w/ the replacement.
i have my car back today the shop rebuilt my alternator, it seems to be working well....i should have had it rebuilt in the 1st place , what a ordeal......i want to say thank you to all for your input .................(and the one on ebay does work great for non supercharged crossfires)......

The day you posted I told you it was most probably a Valeo, you thanked me and purchased a Bosch.
if you red my posts i bought both BOSCH and VALEO with 6 ribs and when i changed to 8 ribs on i did not like the way it lined up maybe for some people its OK not to line up.. its just me... i like it line up....i do thank you for your in put but if i bought the valeo 1st and sent it back than the bosch whats the big deal they both did not work for me, if you read more of my posts you will read that i said they are out there you just have to find them......i think iits easer to rebuild ...
.
WELL i have something to SAY.....THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.....you have helped me and others out a lot ... and again i say thank you for your knowledge and shirring it with us.........
