I have experienced a burning smell (electrical) and hear a knock coming from the alternator on my SRT-6. I know we have a DIY to change it but any good part# for this piece (slk amg 32 and srt-6 the same?).. where is best buy? Which one is easiest ? Valeo ?

Put on one that is the same as what you have now or the plugs will have to be changed as well. Valeo appears to be the one on the SRT. Check before committing to buy though. The rear face and the cooling slots are different on the Valeo and the Bosch. There is a thread somewhere that shows the difference.
See this thread for the SRT6 alternator, it is a Valeo. Make sure you get one with the correct 8 groove pulley. You can also have you old one rebuilt at some places. I do not know if some SRTs had Bosch alternators though, I think not but .........

Have it in the shop, and they can't seem to find one.

You need one with the 8 ribbed pulley, not six.
