Auxiliary air pump
I knew this was coming I have to smog my car and my pump is bad I have bought 2 of them off Ebay and one would not fit if was way to big and the 2nd one I got car would not read it being there so I'm now looking for one for sale if anyone has one please let me know .part # 000-580-000-021...... Thank you
Well this is the 3rd pump I have bought that does not fit the bracket they all have been too big but it does work so I can pass California smog and they don't care how it looks with the bailing wire holding it in place as long as it will pass
Yes it's the one you sent me a pm to buy so I bought it and it's too big but it will work so I can pass calif smog ... It sure looks ugly but it will work for now...
I can send you more pic. If you like ? .... the one on my car is Moore round and the one I bought is Moore square and it's bigger and longer and will not fit in the bracket on my car but it does work and the check engine light is off now so I can get my calif smog done I'm happy with that ... Again thank you for the lead
Gets confusing after a while Eh?
I'm just disappointed this guy's checked against my VIN and said - all good....
he claims to even have taken it from a 2002 SLK32 - same as mine...and yet it doesn't line up....
oh well....just gotta triple check hey.

I didn't know - but I assumed you had an SRT6 given this is the SRT6 forum...
my pm said...
"If you are still looking - there is one in the US I previously verified with him by sending my SLK32 VIN# - just to be sure..."
I would have thought them the same hey...obviously not.
maybe its to feed all that extra hp the SLK32 has...LOL

Has anyone ever built a secondary/auxilary air pump simulator to replace the actual pump in these? I/ve seen them done and working in e36 bmws before, no check engine light or anything.
The Mercedes part number 580 000 021 (Mercedes) is the same bosh pump as part number 580 000 023 (Audi). Even the number stamped on the plastic is the same. You should be able to find a new Audi pump for around $200 by doing an online search by part number. After my first pump failed (burned up) the new pump stayed on too long, so I unplugged it before it fried also. I pulled out the relay box and found the relay for the pump stuck closed. I replaced the relay and no more problems.

A large company like Bosch does not keep identical parts on the shelf with two different numbers.
Like I said, the number stamped on the plastic, which is the manufactures (Bosch) identification number, is the same. That means the pumps are the same. The only difference is the removable sticker. If it makes someone feel better they can peal off the sticker and put it on the new Audi pump and everything will be identical.

The plastic parts have to have a number on them to identify them, the number may also indicate where and when it was made, what mold it was made on, and the particular modification number to that part, in most cases another stamp indicates what material it is made from for recycling laws. I designed molds so I have some knowledge of this matter.
I beg to differ, the part number stamped on the plastic is the part number of that particular plastic part which could be used on all sorts of different air pump models. The Bosch number is clearly the part number on the sticker and is the result of all the different parts assembled to make that particular model of air pump.

It must be a nightmare to be the poor smuck responsible for putting the right sticker on the right pump. Does the Mercedes pump which is indistinguishable from the Audi pump, including the only number on the two pumps, get a Mercedes sticker or an Audi sticker? I am glad I don't work for Bosch.
